• The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) measure what you're learning in school, determine if you're on track, and open doors for opportunities to prepare and pay for college.

The PSAT/NMSQT is offered at Knightdale HS each school year on the Primary PSAT/NMSQT Test Day as displayed on the College Board PSAT Website. Additional information about registration for the Knightdale High School administration of the PSAT/NMSQT can be found below:

    WHO SHOULD TAKE THE PSAT/NMSQT?

The PSAT/NMSQT is an optional test. Any interested KHS student may take the PSAT/NMSQT. However, the PSAT/NMSQT contains items with Algebra and some Geometry concepts. Students often perform best when they have been successful in rigorous Math and English coursework. Completion of Math I is strongly encouraged.

While all high school students can register to take the PSAT NMSQT, WCPSS will only pay for 11th grade students who are likely to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. Any other students interested in taking the PSAT can pay the PSAT/NMSQT registration fee to take the assessment. Fee waivers are available for any KHS Junior who is unable to pay the registration fee. Please contact your school counselor to request a fee waiver for the PSAT/NMSQT.

    PSAT/NMSQT CALCULATOR POLICY

When you take the PSAT/NMSQT, you can use a calculator for part of the Math Test, but it has to be an approved type. CALCULATORS ARE NOT PROVIDED AT THE TEST CENTER, AND CALCULATORS CANNOT BE SHARED. Don’t bring a calculator you’ve never used before. Bring one you know. Practice for the test using the same calculator you’ll use on test day.

A battery-operated, handheld calculator can be used for testing on the PSAT/NMSQT Math with Calculator section only. All scientific calculators, which can perform complex mathematical functions but don’t have a graphing feature, are acceptable as long as they don’t have any prohibited features. Please review the list of Acceptable Graphing Calculators on the PSAT website. No other calculators are permitted.
