• Kate Fehling

Greetings, Wakefield Elementary families and prospective families!  My name is Kate Fehling and I am joining the Wakefield Elementary Nest in my 25th year in education.  In my last role as principal, I had the pleasure of leading the Hilburn Hawks, a PreK-8 school community in Raleigh.  Outside of my three years at Hilburn, I have served students at every grade level from kindergarten through college and have taught a multitude of subjects such as English as a Second Language and Self-Management, though the vast majority of my 15+ years of teaching were in high school math classrooms.  In 2010, I had the privilege of opening Heritage High School as one of the founding faculty members.  In 2016, I moved into administration full-time as an assistant principal at Leesville Road High School.  I have also served a number of years (11) as a girls’ soccer coach, as an advisor to community service organizations (Leo Club, Beta Club), and as a student council advisor. My involvement in all of these pursuits has been global, teaching in Taiwan for 13 months in 2008-09, and coaching in England and the Netherlands in the Summer of 2004.

Outside of school, I am the proud wife to a WCPSS PE teacher and mother to four WCPSS students (8th, 7th, 5th, and 1st grade).  I grew up in New England (born in Boston, raised in Maine) and spent college and my early career in NY before moving to North Carolina in 2010.   I love traveling, watching and playing sports, reading, cooking, and baking.  My passion for education spans all ages and subject areas.  I am a fierce advocate for doing what is best for kids, each and every child in my care.  I am excited to lead the Eagles and be a part of this wonderful community!
