WECHS Senior Exam Exemptions
Beginning this year, 2023-2024, only the Economics and Personal Finance course is eligible for a Senior Exam Exemption.
The school district sets senior exam exemption details. For the 2023-2024 school year, the criteria for senior exam exemptions are as follows:
Students in grade 12 may be exempt from exams based on the following criteria: (1) projected final grade of B or higher; and (2) student must have 10 or fewer absences in the course.
Please note the following:
All absences, including excused, unexcused, educational, college visits, etc., will count toward the 10 total absences.
At the end of the semester, students may apply to waive additional absences that are (1) outside their control (such as documented medical absence/hospitalization, absence due to bus route not running, etc.) and (2) are well documented beyond the student/parent. This waiver will be extremely limited.
If you meet the criteria for the exemption, you do nothing. Your teacher will confirm that you are eligible for the exam exemption.
Waiver Requests
If you have more than 10 absences (with documentation) and if you will have a final grade of B or higher, you may want to consider submitting a waiver request. Approval of waiver requests will be exceptionally rare. Waivers will only be considered where circumstances are well documented and outside the student's ability to control them. An example of a potential waiver would be a documented hospitalization preventing student attendance at school. No more than five (5) absences above the limit will be approved, even when they are outside the student's control. Absences related to typical illness, college visitations, educational absences, and family vacations are specific absences that will not be waived. If a senior seeks a waiver to complete, contact Ms. Hennings on North, 919-532-5660, shennings@wcpss.net.
Waivers with required documentation are due Tuesday, April 23, 2024, by noon on North Campus, Building C, Room 335.
