The Garden Club is offered to 4th & 5th graders to learn about organic gardening using the raised bed, square-foot method. They learn about soil, planting, spacing, how to provide support structures for plants, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, and finally, how to control weeds & bugs without herbicides. Of course, members get to take the produce they grow home to eat!
Lessons will include: the importance of a healthy diet, healthy fats, eating "real" food instead of packaged, vitamins and minerals in the produce, cooking from scratch, and composting. They will learn about GMOs, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.
Garden Club meets every Tuesday morning at 8am for students that are tracked in. We begin at the start of the school year and meet until the week after the first frost, when we must harvest the last of our produce. We start again in the spring when it’s time to plant!
