    Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths while building a sense of connection in a team setting. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. At the end of the season, the team completes a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Please visit the Girls on the Run website for more information or contact Erin Mills at emills@wcpss.net.

    AFES Art Club

The AFES Art Club  is an independent choice-based creative environment for students to explore different types of art-making activities. Each session the students choose the activities on which they will focus. THIS IS A STUDENT DIRECTED CLUB. This means there will be no lessons taught by Ms. McConnell. If a student likes a specific activity, like Origami or 3D Printing, they may focus on that for multiple weeks; or they may try something new and different every session. As the students freely create and explore, they can connect with students from other classes who have similar artistic interests. This club is offered to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students only. If you have interest in registering please email Ms. McConnell: emcconnell@wcpss.net.

    AFES "Singing Stars"

The AFES “Singing Stars” is an auditioned choral group of 5th grade students who are selected based on their outstanding level of responsibility, dedication, and school spirit as well as their vocal talent and leadership skills. At the beginning of the school year, interested students fill out a form with a parent/guardian, including a written paragraph expressing why they would like to participate and what individual strength or quality they would bring to the group. Vocal placement auditions are scheduled after the interest form is received.

Please take into consideration that being a member of the Singing Stars requires a high level of dedication on the part of both the student and the parent. Participation in the AFES Singing Stars is a commitment for the entire school year. Members are expected to be present and on time for weekly rehearsals, participate in all performances (including evening and off-campus performances), demonstrate appropriate behavior in all classes, demonstrate a positive attitude and work habits in the classroom, and express a love and appreciation for all music.

Questions or more information about this voluntary extra-curricular, please email jsonstroem@wcpss.net
