• Single Subject Acceleration

  • Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is an acceleration opportunity provided for enrolled and attending Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) students.  As outlined in Board Policy 3422,  K-8th grade students who meet specific criteria in Mathematics or English Language Arts (ELA) have the opportunity to accelerate in one subject area.  Only students who are currently enrolled and attending a WCPSS school during the open nomination and testing window are eligible to be considered for SSA. • Lufkin Road Middle SSA

Single Subject Acceleration is the practice of placing a student in a higher-grade level in one subject area. This type of acceleration is for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities in either Math or English/Language Arts. Students have the opportunity to test out of a middle school course and be placed in the next level course for the next school year. For this reason, current 8th grade ELA students are not eligible because the next course is English I which is a high school course. Students who are currently enrolled in math 7+ or higher level math courses are not eligible because the next level course for the 2026-2027 school year is a high school math course.
