Mr. Mathew Hooker - PE
My name is Mathew Hooker and I have been teaching Elementary PE for the last 24 years. I have been at Stough for 19 years. I am originally from England, but I was recruited in 1993 to play soccer for Campbell University where I received a B.S. in Sports Management and an M.Ed in Exercise Science. I am licensed in K-12 Physical Education with National Board Certification.
My goal for your child is to provide a quality Physical Education program so that all students develop healthy living habits in a comfortable, safe, and fun environment. This is accomplished by following the NC Essential Standards for Healthful Living and providing many opportunities for your child to succeed during PE activities.
I'm #StoughProud because: of the wonderful environment created by the staff and students on a daily basis. It is such a great place for students to grow and learn.

Mrs. Amy Galvan - Media
I grew up in eastern North Carolina. I graduated from Meredith College with a B.A. in English and from NCCU with a Master of Library Science degree. I have been School Library Media Coordinator at Stough since 1999. Prior to coming to Stough, I had taught high school English and middle school language arts and even 8th grade math. I love to read, and I hope to share my love for reading with my students. I also enjoy the quest for information. I strive to help our Stallions learn where to search for and find reliable information when they need it. I value the many ways that our students can Create, Communicate, Collaborate and Think Critically, so I provide many ways for our Stallions to explore their interests. On any day in the library, you may find them coding our robots, building with cardboard, collaborating to build with Lego or Keva planks or enjoying some quiet time to read or color. In my personal life, my husband and I have a son who is a first-year student at Elon University. This will be our first year as empty-nesters, so we will be adjusting to this new normal. I enjoy music, so I sing alto in the church choir, play in the handbell group, and work with one of the children’s choirs at church. When I get a free moment at home, I love to spend time creating cards and scrapbook pages. I have also started to crochet, but I am still a novice at that!
I am #StoughProud because: of our curious, creative students.

Mrs. Erin Tabler - Music
Hello! I am Erin Tabler, the music teacher at Stough Elementary. I have been teaching music for over 11 years. I have taught in Michigan, Florida, and now in North Carolina. I received my Bachelors of Music from Michigan State University, where I played the baritone in the Spartan Marching Band (Go Green!). I have enjoyed opportunities to sing in chorus with the Disney Candlelight Processional and with Encore Performing Arts.
I love music and the experiences I have had, and I hope to inspire that same joy and love of music in my students. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending quality time with my husband and preschool daughter, parents and two sisters here in Raleigh, exploring all the fun opportunities the city has to offer.
I'm #StoughProud because: I love the diversity, collaboration and global perspective that Stough offers. It is a truly unique and engaged community unlike any other I have worked in.

Mr. Michael McCue - Art
My name is Michael McCue and this is my tenth year teaching Elementary Art and my seventh year as a Stough Stallion. I am originally from Long Island, New York, where I received my bachelor's at Molloy University and my master's at Hofstra University in Art Education K-12. I then relocated to Wake County in 2015. You can also find me teaching at Artspace Camp in downtown Raleigh in the summer (Stough students sometimes attend so I teach them art year-round!). My goal is for students to impress themselves with what they can create, as I mentor them to uncover their hidden talents. I look forward to a successful year of having our students find their inner artist. Follow my Twitter/X @MrMcCueArt for art class updates.
I'm #StoughProud because: I enjoy seeing the growth of our young artists as they inspire me with their enthusiasm and curiosity when creating art. I feel this school is very unique and special and I am honored when families say that artmaking has helped their child's esteem building and creativity.

Ms. Ya-Han "Sunny" Chiang
I am Ya-Han Chiang, my students like to call me Sunny laoshi. I am originally from Taiwan, and have a bachelor's degree in Chinese literature at Feng Chia University, and then came to US for school in 2006 for a master's degree in Linguistics at Indiana State Univ. After that, I taught Mandarin Chinese at a middle school in Oakland, California for a year. Then, I finally settled down in Raleigh in 2011 with my husband. Now we have two boys who both speak Mandarin and English. We like to go to the park, watch movies, and play board games together.
Before working at Stough, I was the pre-K assistant teacher for 4 years. Also, I have been a Chinese teacher at Raleigh Chinese language school for 10 years. My class is for kids ages 4-5 from English-speaking families. I am also a private Chinese tutor for different levels of students. My class is FUN because I like the method “Learn through playing”.
I LOVE traveling and have been to Canada, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Greece, Italy, Germany, Netherland, Spain, Portugal, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam…and still want to explore more new countries and learn from the trips. I hope I can bring this passion and energy to my students and share the language and cultural differences with them. Please come to learn Mandarin Chinese with me. It will be FUN. Hen hao wan!!! LOL.
I'm #StoughProud because: It is the only Mandarin immersion elementary school in WCPSS. The campus is new, the working environment is good, and the staffs are all very nice!!
