I am a graduate of Barton college, and shortly after graduating I lived in Charlotte so we could be near the Carolina Panthers! Now I live in Holly Springs with my daughter, Madison, my husband, Brad, and my dog, Tank. This is my 24th year of teaching. I have taught every grade except kindergarten. I cannot think of any other thing I would rather do with my life :) It fills my heart, every single day! When I am not at work, I love spending time with my family, preferably at the beach… in the sunshine. 

I have taught 4th grade through 8th grade, but 5th grade is my happy place! When I’m not teaching or thinking about school, I love to spend time with my husband, adult children, grand babies, and dogs (aka “the Girls”). I look forward to a wonderful year at an amazing new school with awesome fifth graders!

Hi! I’m Maria Santos-Ruiz, and I love teaching 5th grade! With over 10 years in education and a background as a school counselor, I bring social-emotional wellness into our classroom every day. I’m passionate about helping students grow not just academically, but as confident, kind, and curious people. Originally from Portugal, I speak Portuguese and Spanish, and enjoy bringing cultural diversity into learning. My husband and I share a blended family of six kids and three grandkids who keep life joyful and full. I truly believe every child shines when they feel seen, supported, and inspired to love learning.
