STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The idea of emphasizing these subjects in delivering the curriculum has been driven by the business community, with the goal of preparing an agile and competitive workforce. STEM skills are vital for success in the 21st Century and critical to our collective future. The "Critical C's" of Collaboration, Cooperation and Communication are emphasized through project-based learning, usually through interdisciplinary (across subject) activities.

Middle Creek High School is part of Wake County's STEM Schools Collaborative. The WCPSS STEM Schools Collaborative is a group of schools dedicated to enhanced strategic planning, professional development, programming and community advocacy around science, technology, engineering and math. We are provided the opportunity for sharing of best practices around STEM Education and provide leadership to other schools in this area. 

The National Academy of Engineers has identified 14 Grand Challenges that the world faces in this century. Each of the grand challenges can be solved by lifelong learners of STEM. Every job, even the ones you would not expect, will require a least basic STEM skills. Research shows that these skills are transferable and needed in every job sector.

At Middle Creek High School, students apply the curriculum through the lens of STEM-focus activities. Student will master skills and competencies that will enable them to appreciate the complexities - and opportunities - of deeper work in addressing the Grand Challenges. STEM students are problem solvers, innovators, inventors, and logical thinkers. STEM provides the 21st Century foundational skills for every student to be successful in college, work and life!
