  • Mark Savage

    Dr. Elena Ashburn began her career in education as a Teach For America Corps Member, teaching English at Southern Durham High School. She served as an assistant principal at Fuquay-Varina High School prior to becoming principal at East Garner Magnet Middle School and later Needham B. Broughton Magnet High School. Dr. Ashburn earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from UNC Chapel-Hill in 2018. In 2021, Dr. Ashburn was named the North Carolina Wells Fargo Principal of the Year. She was named Central Area Superintendent in 2022.

    Mark Savage began his teaching career at Leesville Road High School in 1997 after teaching in Delaware for five years.   He has served as assistant principal at Sanderson High School, Wakefield High School and Wakefield Middle School.   His principal appointments include Wakefield Middle School, Wakefield High School and Heritage High School.  He was named the Eastern Area Superintendent in 2018.

    Dr. Ve-Lecia Council began her teaching career with WCPSS in 1998 at Rand Road Elementary and West Lake Elementary. She served as an assistant principal at Leesville Elementary for three years before becoming principal at Baucom Elementary School in 2005. She converted the school from traditional to multi-track year-round during the height of the school's increased student enrollment. In 2009, Dr. Council was appointed principal of Sanford Creek Elementary, where she served for six years before leaving the district to move to Indiana. She worked with Indianapolis Public Schools as an Academic Improvement Officer before returning to WCPSS to work as the Director of Alternative Learning for a brief amount of time. In 2016, Dr. Council joined Pitt County Schools as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. After four years with PCS, she returned to WCPSS when she was named Northeastern Area Superintendent in April 2020.

    Chris McCabe began his teaching career at Pleasant Union Elementary School in 1993.  He taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades during his time in the classroom.  He served as assistant principal at Brentwood Elementary from 2001-02 before being named Principal at Smith Elementary.  In 2007, he opened a new multi-track year-round school, North Forest Pines Elementary.  He served as principal at Heritage Middle School from 2012-2020. He was named the Northern Area Superintendent on March 1, 2020.

    Seydric Williams joined the Wake County Public Schools System in 2013. He began his career in the Granville County School System, where he served as a sixth grade mathematics teacher, middle school assistant principal, and an elementary school principal at Creedmoor Elementary School.  After spending nine years in Granville County, Seydric transitioned to Christiansburg, Virginia and later Roanoke, Virginia, where he served in various roles, including Executive Director of Elementary Education, principal, and assistant principal. He began his career in Wake County as principal at Creech Road Elementary School. He was named the Northwestern Area Superintendent in July 2016.

    James Overman came to Wake County in 1998 as an Assistant Principal Intern at Timber Drive Elementary. He served as an assistant principal at Leesville Elementary. After serving three years in that capacity, he was named principal at Creech Road Elementary. He opened East Garner Elementary as principal and later transitioned to Central Services, where he worked as Senior Director for Elementary Programs. He was named the Elementary Support Area Superintendent in 2015. He was named the Southeastern Area Superintendent in 2019.

    Dr. Ashlie Thompson began her career in the Wake County Public School System in 1996. After 10 years of teaching, she served as the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Enloe Magnet High School for 6 years. She worked in the WCPSS Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Office for 2 years as the Director for Curriculum Enhancement Programs. In 2013, she was selected to be the founding principal of Vernon Malone College and Career Academy. She was named Southwestern Area Superintendent in July 2017, Central Area Superintendent in July 2019, and Southern Area Superintendent in September 2022.

    Jonathan Enns began his education career as a physics teacher at Green Hope High School in 2001, after giving up a promising career as a commercial pilot to follow his true passion. He served as an assistant principal at Fuquay-Varina High from 2008-2012, then as principal of Phillips Middle in Chapel Hill from 2012-14 before returning to Fuquay-Varina High to become its principal. He was named WCPSS Principal of the Year in 2017. Enns became the Southwestern Area Superintendent in 2019.

    Dr. Tammie Sexton began her teaching career in WCPSS in 1990 at Rand Road Elementary. She served as an assistant principal at Swift Creek Elementary for three years. Dr. Sexton was then appointed principal at Holly Springs Elementary School in 1999. She was the founding principal at two schools Wakelon Elementary (2005) and Richland Creek Elementary (2012). Dr. Sexton received a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership in 2010 and was named Western Area Superintendent in 2019.
