Mr. Ryan Fotta
I have had the pleasure of teaching at Joyner for over ten years now. I enjoy guiding my students' creativity in my room and giving them the freedom to develop into the artist they want to be. I enjoy working with clay most of all since I concentrated in ceramics at East Carolina University.

Mr. Ethan Hejl
Hello! I’m Ethan Hejl, and I’m so excited to be the Technology Teacher here at J.Y. Joyner Elementary! Originally from Texas, I served five years in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer at Fort Bragg, NC, before beginning a career in the technology field. After several years working in tech, I felt inspired to bring my passion for helping others and love of technology into the classroom.
As a first-year teacher, my goal is to make learning interactive, engaging, and fun for every student. I want my classroom to be a place where curiosity and creativity thrive, and where students feel empowered to explore how technology can shape their world.
Outside of school, you’ll find me spending time with my amazing wife Emily and our three dogs, or relaxing by the water with a fishing pole in hand. I’m thrilled to be part of the Joyner family and can’t wait for an incredible year ahead!

Ms. Heather Scott
Mrs. Scott has been teaching music for over 25 years with 11 years as a full-time classroom teacher in grades K-12. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University-Bloomington, where her primary instrument was saxophone.
Music classes will explore the foundations of music, learn about different music genres, music across the globe, ukulele, recorder, xylophone, and so many more hands-on exciting musical activities!
4th and 5th Grade students may also participate in Gold Choir - our extra-curricular choir that performs at various events throughout the school year.
When Mrs. Scott isn't teaching music or volunteering in her children's schools, she enjoys spending time with her son and daughter, their two cats, and golden retriever. She also loves to read, grill delicious foods, bake desserts, and share laughter and love with family and friends.
Cheers to an exciting year in music at JYJ!
