North Carolina Merit Scholarships
East Carolina University's EC Scholars
EC Scholars are among the university’s most valued investments as they embody academic excellence and leadership, a way of life that is at the heart of East Carolina. Housed in the Honors College, EC Scholars receive a scholarship valued at nearly $64,000. Students accepted into this prestigious four-year program engage in rigorous coursework, collaborate with faculty on research, receive a stipend to study abroad, and become leaders amongst their peers. UNC Charlotte's Levine Scholars
The Levine Scholars Program is UNC Charlotte's premier scholarship program. As a program grounded in civic engagement, the Levine Scholarship not only covers the full cost of attending UNC Charlotte, but also awards scholars a grant to implement a community service project and funding to support a nonprofit internship. Scholars grow into transformational leaders through an experience that includes study abroad, a pre-professional internship, individualized mentorship and a professional development fund. NC State University's Park Scholarships
The Park Scholarships is NC State University’s premier four-year merit scholarship program. Beyond covering the full cost of attending NC State, it affords Park Scholars access to a vibrant community of peers and alumni; horizon-expanding trips, retreats, service opportunities, and leadership training; individualized faculty mentoring; early course registration; and grants to fund professional and personal enrichment experiences such as study abroad and research projects. The Cheatham-White Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program for students attending North Carolina Central University. UNC Chapel Hill's Morehead Cain Scholarship
Morehead-Cain is UNC-Chapel Hill's premier scholarship program and the first merit scholarship program established in the United States. The Morehead-Cain provides a full four-year scholarship covering tuition, books, room and board, and four summer experiences known as the Morehead-Cain's Summer Enrichment Program. However, due to the large number of applications and our limited resources, we are able to award only a small percentage of students scholarships. - American Indian College Fund – Provides Native American students with scholarships and financial support for the nation’s 33 accredited tribal colleges and universities.
- American Indian Graduate Center & AIGCS - The largest scholarship providers to Native students in the United States, awarding $15 million in scholarships annually and more than $200 million since inception. For almost 50 years, AIGC has funded students pursing undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in any field of study at any accredited institution of choice, working with over 500 tribes in all 50 states.
- Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund – The nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted to providing college scholarships for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI).
- Cappex – A free website where you can learn which colleges want you, before you apply and learn about more than $11 billion in merit aid scholarships.

- The College Board Opportunity Scholarships - The program guides juniors and seniors through the college planning process and offers the chance to earn scholarships, from $500 to $40,000, for every action that students complete.
- Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation – Educational and scholarship opportunities for students of all levels.
- Dell Scholars Program – Recognizes academic potential and determination in students that have a definite need for financial assistance.
- Fastweb – Create a profile and let fastweb do the research on scholarships, internships colleges and more for you.
- Going Merry - A free, one-stop scholarships platform. It matches you with scholarships and then helps you apply directly. It has both local and national scholarships and you can bulk-apply for multiple scholarships, which share similar essay prompts, using one application.
- Goizueta Legacy Scholarship - Provides scholarships for the children of Coca-Cola employees.
- HS Finder (Hispanic Scholarship Fund) – Scholarship information for Latino students.
- Jack Kent Cooke Foundation - A national scholarship provider dedicated to advancing the education of promising students who have financial need. Open to high-achieving high school seniors who seek to attend and graduate from some of the nation's best four-year college and universities.
- KnowHow2GO – Complete information on college prep, whether in middle school or seniors.
- The NSHSS Foundation - The NSHSS Foundation fosters the growth of students pursuing the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), business, economics, public policy, and environmental science and sustainability fields. The NSHSS Foundation connects young scholars with additional opportunities to advance their education, personal growth and career interests.
- Peerlift - Proven scholarships, internships, summer programs, and more gathered by fellow students like you. (Founded by a team of 2017 Coca-Cola Scholars!) Learn more about the creation of Peerlift.
- Reagan Foundation Scholarships - Scholarship opportunities for outstanding student leaders.
- Scholar Snapp - A free, simple to use data standard that allows students to reuse their application information - including contact information, essays, transcripts, etc. - from one scholarship application to another thereby streamlining the college scholarship application process.
- Scholarships.com– A free college scholarship search and financial aid information.
- Scholarship America – Provides information and resources for your scholarship search.
- Scholly – A mobile app that provides students with a fast and simple way to find scholarships for college. (Created by Christopher Gray, a Coca-Cola Scholar!)
- Thurgood Marshall College Fund – Provides scholarships, programmatic and capacity building support to the 47 public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
- UNCF – Awards 10,000 students each year through 400 scholarship and internship programs so that students from low- and moderate-income families can afford college tuition, books and room and board.

Scholarship Resources for JUNIORS
Wake Electric seeks applicants for a one-week, all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2025 Youth Tour and winners also receive a $1,000 scholarship! Winners MUST go on the Washington Trip to be eligible for the $1,000 scholarship. The trip will be hosted June 15-21, 2025.
Students who attend the Youth Tour will join 1,500 high school students from across the U.S. to learn about electric cooperatives, American history and the U.S. government. Students will also visit the historic sites and federal facilities of the nation’s capital, as well as spend time with their congressional delegations. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded the following year upon proof of enrollment in a North Carolina college or university.
The deadline to apply is December 15, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. Applications must be in our office by the deadline. Applicants will be notified in mid-January 2025.
Applicants must currently be high school juniors in the counties served by Wake Electric which include Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Nash, Vance and Wake counties.

This opportunity is an excellent way for students to boost their college applications, as well as win a $1,000 scholarship from Wake Electric towards their college education. Youth Tourist winners from across North Carolina will also be eligible to apply for and win one of three annual scholarships: The Gwyn B. Prince Youth Scholarship ($2,500); The Katie Bunch Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) and the Youth Leadership Council Scholarship ($2,000).
