    ​PSAT
    The PSAT is a standardized, multiple-choice test that includes two sections: reading and writing, and mathematics and is taken digitally. The test provides practice for the SAT and allows students the opportunity to enter National Merit scholarship programs. Individual PSAT results are helpful for advising and counseling students. The PSAT is offered to all Sophomores and Juniors who wish to take the exam for a small fee.
    Pre-ACT
    The Pre-ACT is a standardized, curriculum-based, multiple-choice achievement test that includes four areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science, reported on the same scale as the ACT. The Pre-Act is administered for free to all Sophomores during the school day. No registration is necessary.
     
     
    SAT vs. ACT
    The SAT and ACT are two competing examinations for college entrance. Most schools will accept either an SAT or an ACT score BUT do not take that for granted! Check with the school you are considering to see what they want, either via the school's website or by calling the school's admissions department.
    The ACT is offered each spring on campus during the school day to Juniors ONLY. No registration is required.  Apex High School does not offer Saturday testing, nor do we offer any SAT testing on site.

    How are results used?: Results are used by high schools for advising and counseling students, by WCPSS for evaluating instructional effectiveness and planning curriculum, and by colleges and universities to make decisions regarding admissions, scholarships and loans, course placement, and academic advising.

    ​Apex High does not administer the SAT.

The ACT writing test is optional. The ACT assesses skills and knowledge that are important for success in college.
    How are results used? Results are used by high schools for advising and counseling students, by WCPSS for evaluating instructional effectiveness and planning curriculum, and by colleges and universities to make decisions regarding admissions, scholarships and loans, and course placement. Results are also used as part of the state’s high school accountability framework.
