Ms. Sheri Callahan
My name is Sheri Callahan. I was born on the Gulf Coast in Mobile, Alabama, went to college and graduate school in the Piedmont, and ended up in the foothills of the Appalachians in Alabama before moving to North Carolina. As an avid camper, I love the NC mountains. Now I live in the piedmont region, and I frequently visit coastal NC. The wonderful thing about settling in North Carolina is that I didn’t have to give up mountains or the coast, and the people are friendly and inviting.
I taught school in Alabama before going to work at a residential program for troubled teens. I moved from Alabama in 2001 to help convert a wilderness program to an all-girls college preparatory boarding school with therapeutic support. After many years of working and supervising counseling and student life departments in residential schools, I decided to return to the joy of the classroom. I have been teaching in North Carolina since 2005. I have taught 1st through 7th grades in my twenty-plus years of teaching, with more than a decade of this having been in teaching 4th grade. It’s sort of “my jam!” I graduated Summa Cum Laude, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Communication & Psychology and a master’s degree in Education from Auburn University. I grew up with a huge extended family that gathered frequently, cooking tasty Gulf Coast food, singing and playing music, and telling colorful stories. The class is just like a big family, and I love to see each group develop into a supportive, respectful community. I have two sons named Bear and Jonah, a cat named Mack (aka Mackaroni) and a dog named Nia. It is my hope to create a safe, collaborative, and engaging learning environment. I want to give students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and confidence. I want to see each learner achieve their academic goals and exceed expectations, while we thrive as a community.
