2023-2024 American School Counselor Association Action Plan
-
Each year, school counselors in the Wake County Public Schools are asked to use current issues in their schools, devise a plan to try to address them, and analyze the data after the interventions.
My focus this year has been a small group of Hispanic/Latin 4th and 5th grade boys. We worked on self-confidence, educational goals, career exploration, being kind to others, behavior, and pride in culture and in self.
- The data I used monitored how the students did on N.C. Check-Ins in Reading and Math this year compared to last year. Results comparing the two years did not achieve the goal.
- I also assessed how these students did with quarter-to-quarter growth on the N.C. Check-Ins this year. Results analyzing this year's growth did achieve the goal, with an increase from the first to the third quarters.
- As part of ASCA's Mindsets and Behaviors assessment, I did a pre- and post-test assessment for the members of the small group, measuring the number of Yes responses. The goal was to go from 4.75 to 6.5. Results show that the number of Yes responses on the post-test went from 4.75 to 9.5. The mindsets and behaviors areas I chose were:
- B-LS 7. Long and short-term academic, career, and social-emotional goals
- M-5 Belief in using their abilities to the fullest to achieve high quality results and outcomes
