• Internships

Thank you to the community businesses that have hosted our CTE Interns, from Leesville!

A CTE Internship is a semester course that can be taken by rising juniors and seniors, and is available for honors credit! A CTE Internship allows for additional development of career and technical competencies within a general career field. Internships allow students to observe and participate in daily operations, develop direct contact with job personnel, ask questions about particular careers, and perform certain job tasks. This activity is exploratory and allows the student to get hands-on experience in several related activities. The teacher, students, and the business community jointly plan the organization, implementation, and evaluation of an internship, regardless of whether it is an unpaid or paid internship. Interns must complete 120 hours of work-based learning to earn one credit during one semester: Fall or Spring). Contact the Internship Coordinator, Mrs. Andrews, Career Development Coordinator with questions regarding the Internship Program at Leesville Road High School.

If you are interested in completing an internship next year, watch the videos and complete the Internship Course Form.

Interns can begin looking for a business sponsor for their internship.
    1. How do I find a company to intern with? View this video.

    2. Remember, do not email a company without finding a contact person's email, first.

    3. Your contacts from your family and friends are usually the best sources for providing information on potential internship sites. Having family members reach out to their contacts is a great way to use networking to find an internship site. This source is often the easiest way to secure an internship because in most cases, family friends already know you and what kind of student you are at school.

    4. Another way to find an internship site is to complete an Internet search using Google to find local companies of the type you would like to intern with. Once you find companies or organizations that you are interested in, you will need to contact a decision-maker at that company/organization to see if they will host you as an intern.

    5. You can also use the following sites to find companies/organizations that may provide internships (search for companies in the Raleigh area):

    ~ Better Business Bureau
    ~ Raleigh Chamber of Commerce
    ~ Indeed
    ~ Work in the Triangle
~ Wake County Departments and Agency List

Once you find a potential company…
You can email a specific person at that company, requesting an internship.
Note: Although Option I may sound more difficult, it is often more successful. It is much easier to say “No” to an email than it is to someone’s face. It also shows that you are taking the initiative to get yourself out there.

If you have not gotten your internship sponsor yet; keep trying until you secure your spot. Your goal should be to obtain your internship sponsor before school starts.

As soon as you have a company you're interested in, you should job shadow at the company before school ends or during the summer!
