The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is an aptitude test that helps you determine your own natural abilities, which will assist you in making informed career choices.  The military branches require the ASVAB for entrance into the military, and this score determines your job in the military.

ASVAB Test - Students (11th and 12th) interested in the military should sign up. The ASVAB scores determine what occupations students qualify for in the military. Therefore, students must study for the ASVAB. Students (10th - 12th) who are unsure what careers they are interested in, might also consider taking the ASVAB. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP) for high school students is a free aptitude test and a comprehensive career exploration resource.
For seniors who would like to enter/enlist in the military after graduation, students must take the ASVAB Test.

If you're interested in serving your country and getting a college degree, the U.S. military academies are well worth checking out. The five United States military academies prepare students to become officers while providing them with a free undergraduate degree in exchange for military service. The admissions process to these academies is extensive and very competitive.

THE FIVE OFFICIAL U.S. MILITARY ACADEMIES Although there are many military-style schools, there are only five official officer training academies operated by the U.S. Armed Forces.
U.S. Military Academy (Army) West Point, New York
    U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland
U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York
U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut

WHAT'S THE "HITCH"? Upon graduation, cadets become second lieutenants or ensigns and must serve a minimum term of duty, usually five years plus another three years in the Reserves. If the student's chosen occupation requires particularly extensive training, the tour of duty may be longer.

Each Spring, students interested in applying for a nomination will have an opportunity to submit an online application and submit supporting materials. Check websites for exact dates.
    Candidates for consideration must submit:
    1. Completed questionnaire application (including a 30-second video)
    2. Essay summarizing your reason for wanting to attend a Service Academy
    3. High School Transcript SAT/ACT scores
    4. Résumé
    5. Two (2) letters of recommendation from non-relatives, at least one of which must be from a teacher or school official.
    6. A recent photograph of yourself and be at least 17 years of age, but not yet 23 by July 1st of the year he or she is admitted to the Service Academy.  For the Merchant Marine Academy, the upper age limit is 25. Be a United States Citizen at the time he or she enters the Service Academy and a legal resident of North Carolina. Be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents. Meet the minimum requirements of the Academy to which he or she is applying. Candidates who do not meet the school’s minimum requirements will not receive an interview for the Service Academy. Please encourage all candidates to apply for ALL/AS MANY nominations as possible, not just one.
