• SRES School Updates 10.6.23

    Good Evening, Lion Families,

Please review the information below and let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Hispanic Heritage Month Parade Success
      • Thanks for joining us for our Hispanic Heritage Month parade - the kids were excited to show off their school spirit and commitment to cultural inclusion. I hope everyone enjoyed it!
    2. Fall Picture Day
      • Fall Picture Day is Tuesday, October 10th. Students will be sent home with picture order forms. These pictures are for the yearbook, so students will need to wear their uniforms.
    3. National Walk and Roll to School Day
      • Our school will participate in National Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 11th.  We will gather on the track at 7:30 AM and walk around the track until 7:50 AM. You are welcome to join us with your children! Please park in the large parking lot directly behind the school if you plan to attend.
    4. Interims - Sent Home
      • We have asked teachers to send home interims by the end of next week (10/13). Some of you may have already received them! These interim reports will include information about students' academic progress. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions about the interim report.
    5. Title I Presentation - You Are Invited!
      • As you know, we are a Title I school. This means we receive additional funding from the federal government because we have a significant number of students who are elgible for free and reduced lunch. These funds are intended to help students and schools access needed resources for quality instruction and are generally used to hire additional staff members. Part of being a Title I school means communicating key information to you each year, including information about our family engagement policy and our home-school compact. Click HERE to see this information.
      • If you are interested in sharing your thoughts on how Title I funds are spent and providing us with feedback on how we can better work with your family, please attend the virtual Title I presentation on Tuesday, October 24th, from 5:30-6:30 PM. This meeting will be held via Google Meet: Click HERE to access the link!
    6. Mr. Hill - Off Campus Next Week
      • Mr. Hill will be off campus for a Title I family engagement conference in Kansas next week. Please contact the main office for urgent concerns. They will direct you to our interim assistant principal, Ms. Kimberly Mitchell. Her email is: kamitchell@wcpss.net.
    7. Hispanic Heritage Night
      • Join us for a night of music, dancing, student performances, and prizes as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! This will take place Thursday, October 12th, from 5:30-7 PM. Please confirm your attendance by following the directions HERE if you plan to attend. This will help us ensure that we have enough snacks.
    8. Fall Open House - Curriculum Night
      • Save the date for our fall Curriculum Night - October 19th from 5:00-7:30 PM. Join us to see a student musical performance, to hear about what your children are learning, and to learn how you can support your child with their academics at home. Please confirm your attendance by completing the form HERE. This will help us ensure that we have enough snacks.
    9. Student Checkout in the Main Office
      • As a reminder, no student checkout is allowed after 2:30 PM each day due to our need to prevent disruptions to dismissal procedures.
    10. SRES Family Handbook
      • Please take some time to review the detailed school policies and procedures outlined in our handbook at THIS LINK. This handbook includes important information about arrival and dismissal, including carpool.

    Sincerely,

    Lamar Hill, Principal
