• SRES School Updates 12.29.23

    Good Evening, Lion Families,

We look forward to welcoming students back to another year of learning on Wednesday! Please review the information below and let me know if you have any questions. Happy New Year!

    1. No School Monday or Tuesday
      • The main office will be open regular hours on Tuesday, January 2nd
    2. Club ROAR (Reaching Our Awesome Results) - After School Tutoring Updated Start
      • Due to an unforeseen software issue, Club ROAR registration has been postponed and will open up in January 2024.  We will begin the Club ROAR after school program on January 23, 2024.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Miller at tmiller3@wcpss.net or Darius Anderson at Darius.Anderson@YMCATriangle.org.
    3. Music Teacher Replacement
      • Ms. Watson's last day was 12/20. She decided to take an opportunity to teach at a high school. We thank her for her incredible leadership over the years and will miss her dearly. Ms. Ashlye Watkins, affectionately known by the students as "Ms. Ash Kash," will be the long-term substitute teacher for music class until we are able to hire a new music teacher. Ms. Watson and Ms. Watkins have already done some planning together, and we will do our best to preserve high quality music instruction. Ms. Watkins can be reached by email at aawatkins@wcpss.net.
    4. Learn to Ride Event: You are Invited
      • The Learn to Ride event is happening on Saturday January 20, 2024 from 1-3 pm at the Carolina Pines Community Center. This event is held in partnership with Oaks and Spokes, a Raleigh based nonprofit dedicated to safer road users and streets. Using the balance bike method, volunteers assist learners with gaining a sense of balance and control on a bicycle. Learners of all ages are welcome, and extra bikes in all sizes will be available to use. Oaks and Spokes will also provide extra helmets that participants can take home. Or riders are welcome to bring their own helmet and bike.
      • Oaks and Spokes will have a bike mechanic on site for basic bike repairs, including inflating tires and adjusting brakes. Participants will be paired with a volunteer who will help teach them how to balance and propel themselves forward using their feet in a closed parking lot. More skilled riders can practice their braking and turning skills in a small obstacle course made of comes.
    5. Carpool Reminder
      • Please make sure you are using the official carpool lane to drop off students in the morning. We are not allowed to use the YMCA parking lot for carpool traffic. Please make sure you are stopping at the stop sign during carpool as well. We want to make sure everyone is safe!
    6. Student Checkout in the Main Office
      • As a reminder, no student checkout is allowed after 2:30 PM each day due to our need to prevent disruptions to dismissal procedures. Please remember that you must show ID to check out a student if we do not recognize you.
    7. Volunteer With Us
      • If you want to be able to volunteer to chaperone field trips and help with events, please register as a volunteer using THIS LINK. It will take a few days for your volunteer application to be processed. We appreciate your support!
    8. SRES Family Handbook
      • Please take some time to review the detailed school policies and procedures outlined in our handbook at THIS LINK. This handbook includes important information about arrival and dismissal, including carpool.

    Sincerely,

    Lamar Hill, Principal
