    Medical Bio-Science Academy 

     

    LANGUAGE (6 credits required)

    English I-IV (4 credits), World Language (2 credits; Spanish preferred)

    MATH (4 credits required)

    4 credits required with one credit beyond NC Math III

    SCIENCE ( 3 required credits)

    Biology, Chemistry, Earth/AP Environmental Science

    MBSA Science elective (1 required credit)

    Anatomy & Physiology, Physics or IB Sports

    SOCIAL STUDIES (4 credits required)

    Class of 2026:  Civic Literacy, World History, American History (or AP US History or IB History of Americas, Economics & Personal Finance

    HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION (1 credit required)

    Health and Physical Education ( honors preferred)

    MBSA REQUIRED ELECTIVES:

    9th grade (1 credit):  Health Science I Honors

    10th grade (1 credit):  Biomedical Technology Honors/ Animal Science I Honors

    11th grade (1 credit)Health Science II Honors/ Animal Science II

    12th grade (1 credit) choose ONE course: Pharmacy Tech, EMT, Biomedical Technology II, a Wake Tech Health Science class (CNA) or IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science*

    *this course cannot count for both MBSA science electives and an MBSA-required elective.

    11th or 12th grade:  Required Internships

    Health Science internship credit (120 hours). This can be done during the summer between Junior & Senior Year

    ADDITIONAL MBSA ELECTIVES (2 credits required):  Courses cannot be used for more than one category! If a course is used to fit the above category, it cannot be used here. EMT (seniors only), Physics (any level), Certified Nursing Assistant, Genetics & Microbiology, Animal Behavior & Epidemiology, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Anatomy, Sports Med 1-4, Pharmacy Tech, Child Development, AP Statistics, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Sociology/Psychology, Speech I, Magnet Intro to Computer Science, AP Psychology, IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science, PE Elective, Visual & Performing Arts, business course, or WTCC Health Science course.

     

    Medical BioScience Academy applications are available online on the Enloe HS website and are due May 1. 2024 Applications are open to rising 9th grade students only.

Forms

  • MBSA Applications open in late February after school assignments have been released. The Application will close on May 1st.  

    • For the MBSA application requirements
      • Students can only apply if they have been assigned to Enloe High School.
      • Students must complete the application themselves and be signed in to their WCPSS account to complete the application. 
      • For the application, students need to have the emails of two teachers. One needs to be either a science or math and the other can be another teacher of their choosing. Once the application is submitted, your teachers will be sent an evaluation to complete. 
      • You must complete a paragraph about why you would like to be in the program
      • You must agree to the following guidelines:
        • To maintain a good attitude and follow the honor code in the academy classes as well as in other classes or events. 
        • To complete 120 hours of community service before graduation. At least 30 hours should be turned in each year. 
        • To adhere to the required course of study. 
        • To be regular in school: No more than 5 absences per semester. 
        • To exhibit good behavior: Skipping classes, suspension and cheating are automatic removal from the MBSA. Communicating racist, misogynistic, sexist or any other form of hate/discriminatory speech will not be tolerated and are also grounds for automatic removal.
        •  To maintain at least a 2.5 unweighted GPA. 
        • To attend special classes, enrichment, projects, meetings, or conferences that may be necessary to assure my success in the Academy. At least 80% attendance of the meetings is required.  
        • To participate in MBSA  Projects.  
        • To become CPR certified at least once during my time in the academy. 
        • To job shadow during the junior year.  
        • To complete a 120-hour internship between your junior and senior year. 
        • To turn in all the paperwork for field trips, shadowing, internships, and projects on time.
    • The 24-25 school year application is open and will close on May 1st. Students must log into their WakeID to complete the application. Students who are not currently in WCPSS need to email Mrs. Ledford at bledford2@wcpss.net
