Hello York Bulldog Students & Families!
The 2020-2021 school year will start soon! We've already endured so much and I know we are all feeling a great deal of angst regarding the upcoming school year. First, I want to offer positivity and encouragement.
The challenges of COVID-19 continue to weigh on us all. This year will require a continued ask for grace, compassion, flexibility, and understanding for one another. We will continue to bring to life what the Positivity Project has taught us as a community the past 3 years. No matter the learning platform, we are excited about the growth, milestones, and celebrations we will experience this year. Wake County Public Schools has provided this Return-to-Campus Guide for Families. This comprehensive guide has a great deal of information to support your understanding of district requirements and expectations.
We know this school year will be unlike years prior. We have a new swing space building to unpack, investigate, and live in. We know we must do many things differently. We will have to adjust to being uncomfortable at times because things constantly are ever changing. However, that will never stop us from continuing the work for ALL students everyday! #YorkStrong
As you may know, the Governor has recommended that all districts consider Plan B or Plan C depending on safety and COVID trends within the community. Please continue to monitor updates and plans through WCPSS to support your family's planning for the upcoming school year.
All WCPSS K-12 families will have the option to choose the WCPSS Virtual Academy if they are not ready or able to return to a school campus. Details are on page 6 of the Return-to-Campus Guide for Families. For more details about Virtual Academy, please review the Return to Campus Q & A section.
Every year, we want your child to be safe, healthy, and ready to learn. We also want you to feel comfortable and confident in sending your children to York Elementary. With everything going on in our world, we know that this is likely to be at the forefront of your mind. While we cannot eliminate every what-if scenario for COVID-19, we believe the best environment can be accomplished through compassion, active cooperation and clear communication among students, parents, teachers, and health professionals.
Though our staff/teachers are not contracted to work over the summer, they are already spending countless hours preparing and developing both virtual and in-person options to support your child's safety, wellness, and learning. WCPSS, DHHS, and NCDPI are all working to develop guidance to help keep your child safe and healthy when on campus. Remember that many of us have children and grandchildren who attend York. We share many of the same concerns you have when it comes to the well-being of our YES community.
