    Dear Prospective OWLS,

Her story starts here! Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy, for girls who LEAD!

Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy is Wake County Public Schools System's only all-girls school, established in 2012. Located just beside North Carolina State University and Pullen Park, Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy is on the historic Governor Morehead's Campus. We share the Governor Morehead Campus with the School of the Blind and partially sighted in Raleigh, NC. We serve students in grades 6-13 by providing programming at the middle school level, high school level, and early college. The leadership theme offers students a competitive, rigorous, honors-based program at every level. In an effort to create successful opportunities for young women, the early college model seeks to provide post-secondary educational access for first-generation college students. Our school has students and educators from every part of Wake County and our community is rich in the wealth of diversity. Due to the diverse population and excellent academics, students graduating from Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy are well-prepared to lead into the next stage of their life.

As a Leadership Magnet, Early College Model, and as an all-girls school, Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy is a great fit for young women across Wake County. We challenge students academically by enrolling all students in accelerated academic programs across content areas. Our unique program allows students to meet NC High School requirements early in their school careers, opening more opportunities for acceleration, access, and college credit. Students in our Early College are able to take advantage of collegiate coursework and may graduate with over 40 college credits. Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy is a small school. We are home to about 390 students, with about 57 students at each grade level. We are a small school, with a close-knit and intentional community. Our staff works to build relationships with every student to foster community and belonging. When asked about our school community, current students and alumni always mention how every student is able to feel supported and encouraged to be their best self.

Our teachers are constantly seeking to provide opportunities for every student to display and strengthen their leadership capacity. Staff do this through high-engagement classrooms, real-world experiences, leadership classes, field trips, leadership workshops, and academically challenging courses. In every classroom, students are eager to participate, use their voices, and push their thinking.

We hope you enjoy this virtual visit. We hope you learn more about our unique community and what makes our OWLs thrive!

    Sincerely,

    Mariah Walker, Principal

    Sharon Cuffee, Magnet Coordinator
