High School Program
-
Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy's high school program is a dynamic and empowering educational experience designed specifically for young women to flourish in a supportive, accelerated, and rigorous environment. WYWLA offers the WCPSS and DPI curriculum but also fosters essential leadership skills and personal growth to establish a robust academic experience. The value of an all-girls environment lies in its ability to cultivate a unique sense of camaraderie, confidence, and collaboration among students. By eliminating gender stereotypes and promoting a culture of respect and understanding, young women are encouraged to explore their passions freely and embrace their individuality without fear of judgment. This environment enables students to become strong, confident, and compassionate leaders, equipping them with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern world and make a positive impact on society. As they learn and grow together, the young women of Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy are empowered to challenge barriers, break glass ceilings, and shape a future where their voices are heard and valued.
Our High School Program provides a strong academic foundation for future success in Early College and post-secondary experiences.

Technology
Phones should be kept in classroom phone storage, lockers, and bookbags, except during lunch.
High school OWLs should follow staff guidance related to Cell Phones.
For emergencies, students are welcome to use the phone in the main office.
WCPSS-provided laptops/personal laptops should be charged and available; however, laptops are used only when directed by staff.

Communication
In high school, learning to communicate about grades is an essential skill for students to develop and advocate for themselves. By effectively expressing their academic achievements and challenges, students can gain a deeper understanding of their progress and identify areas where they need support or improvement. Communicating about grades fosters self-awareness, allowing students to take ownership of their education and set realistic goals for personal growth.
Equally, we believe in positive parent partnerships. Parents are a critical part of the educational experience and journey. We ask that all parents stay connected by reading weekly newsletters, as well as checking for updates on the Power School Parent Portal. This portal provides parents with detailed, up-to-date information about student grades and attendance. We often refer to learning platforms as Learning Management Systems (LMS). WCPSS uses Canvas for the primary LMS. Canvas contains all the necessary course information, including upcoming assignments and due dates. If you need to speak with one or more of your middle schooler's teachers, please feel free to email one or more teachers directly by finding their e-mail from WYWLA Staff Directory. If you contact an individual teacher with a specific question about that class, you will receive a response from that teacher within 48 hours. If you email one or more of the team of teachers with a general question about several classes, one teacher may respond on behalf of the entire team to minimize the thread. We are all in partnership- parents, students, and teachers - with the same goal of helping our OWLs achieve their very best.
