With the motto “Approve ye that which is excellent,” Broughton High School serves a diverse population of over 2,100 young people with an emphasis on academic excellence and community involvement. Our students follow an A day/B day schedule, on which they take eight classes - four each day on alternating A & B days for the entire year.

As Wake County's only Global Studies Magnet Program high school, Broughton offers innovative global learning experiences that inspire students to be thoughtful, reflective, service-minded citizens who enjoy learning and contribute effectively within the local-to-global community. Broughton students engage with global themes embedded within the curriculum of all courses, and they have the opportunity participate in expanded options for global elective courses organized through project-based units. Broughton students also have extensive World Languages course options.  In addition, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to participate in Broughton’s excellent International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which emphasizes global understanding, academic rigor, interdisciplinary learning, and authentic assessment.

Broughton also offers many strong Honors and Advanced Placement Programs, a Junior ROTC program, and a Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Marketing Academy along with other innovative academic approaches to learning that prepare our students for success in a global community.

Broughton is known as the Home of the Capitals (or “Caps”). The mascot is the Caps Crazy, and our colors are purple and gold.

School Mission: The Broughton community cultivates knowledgeable and reflective citizens empowered to think critically, appreciate diversity, serve others and collaborate effectively to lead us successfully through the twenty-first century.
