Arrival and Dismissal Information
-
Parents,
Our goal is to make sure that all children arrive and are picked up safely at school dismissal. In the mornings, all students riding in cars should be dropped off at the end of the carpool lane by the adults. Do not drop off children at the front doors unless you are parking in the lot and walking them in.
All appointments should be made for after 3:45 dismissal. If you have an emergency and must pick up your child early, you need to make that request in person to the school office before 3:00. Students will not be released at the end of the day using the office.
If your child is going home a different way, you must send a written note to the teacher (not e-mail). Try and use the same way for transportation– even on the first day of school.
We have 3 dismissal options:
1. Walk to school - wait for your child outside the playground entrance doors. Parents can’t park in the parking lot and walk to get their child. This is a safety concern during carpool.
2. Bus – Mr. Ellis is our bus coordinator.
a. A transportation link will be located on the Penny Road school website. Each afternoon, the bus departure times will be posted so parents can check if they are concerned about a late bus. If you have a bus issue, please contact wcpss.net/transportation or 919-805-3030.
b. You should have received a letter from the transportation department with your child’s bus route information. Remember that it takes a few weeks to get the actual times as routes go longer when they first begin.
c. No child is allowed to ride the bus home with another child. Wake County no longer allows this service (even with a note).
3. Carpool – Amanda Patterson is the carpool coordinator.
a. Please sign up at Meet the Teacher or by the office for a new carpool tag. If you want to use the same number as last year, you must let the person at this table know or it will be given to a new child.
b. Between 3:40 – 3:55, pull into either lane of cars that are parked in front of the school. Put your carpool number on your rear view mirror. Make sure you pull up to the car in front of you. Please do not use your cell phone during student arrival or dismissal. Once we get beyond the first couple of days of carpool, we complete this process within 10 minutes. Please be patient the first few days.
c. DO NOT exit (even when you have your child) unless directed by our safety patrol.
