What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment allows high school students to enroll in college courses and earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. This unique opportunity gives students a head start on their college education while still attending high school. Here is a graphic for "Considerations for College Credits" - and if this is right for you. EWMHS graduation requirements will be taken through our traditional high school courses. While some dual enrollment courses can satisfy equivalent requirements, your schedule at East Wake will include all graduation requirements, and enrollment at Wake Tech does not dictate your schedule at East Wake. Articulation agreements for dual enrollment courses favor in-state public institution transfers, and the transfer/acceptance of dual enrollment courses can be limited by out-of-state or by private institutions. Please inquire with your specific college/university of choice for all options.

Available Pathways
- College Transfer Pathways are designed for high school students who wish to begin earning college credit towards Wake Tech's University Transfer degree programs – Associate in Arts, Associate in Engineering, Associate in Science or Associate in Fine Arts – which are intended for eventual transfer to a four-year college or university. The pathways include courses prescribed in the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transferring credits from North Carolina community colleges to UNC System institutions. The link shows Wake Tech courses and their potential dual enrollment options on your EWMHS transcript. Most carry an additional 1.0 credit weight on your GPA. All courses taken in this pathway will be added to your transcript - whatever you earn at Wake Tech, is what is added to your transcript at East Wake. No matter the outcome!
- Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways lead to a certificate or diploma aligned with a high school career cluster. It is designed for students who want to work toward the completion of a credential before graduating from high school. The link shows available Wake Tech courses that can also be included on your EWMHS transcript. These courses carry the added weighted point value referenced in the chart towards GPA (standard = 0 added, honors = 0.5 added, college = 1.0 point added). Courses taken from this chart WILL be added to your high school transcript, regardless of the grade received. CCP Eligibility Guidelines
9th or 10th Grade CCP Eligibility
To be eligible for a Career and Technical Education pathway (CTE certificate) with CCP through Wake Tech, all 3 requirements must be met. You can then choose from 1 of the 23 options for a CTE Pathway.- Math 1 grade of ‘C’ or higher
- Math 1 EOC score of 3, 4, or 5
- ELA 8 EOC score of 3, 4, or 5
- Principal or Designee recommendation
To be eligible for the College Transfer Pathway with CCP through Wake Tech, you must meet all the following requirements:
- Be identified as AIG (AIG Plan) in English/Reading & Math or English/Reading/Math test scores
(92nd to 99th percentile) - College Readiness Assessment (TABLE)
- PSAT10, SAT, Pre-ACT, NC DAP, or Wake Tech Placement
- Recommendation from Principal or Designee
- Written Consent from Parent/Guardian
- Mandatory Academic Advising
11th and 12th Grade Eligibility
To be eligible for a Career and Technical Education pathway (CTE certificate) with CCP through Wake Tech, one of the following requirements must be met. You can choose from many CTE certifications.- UNWEIGHTED cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
- Demonstrates college readiness in English, reading, and math
- PSAT10, SAT, Pre-ACT, NC DAP, or Wake Tech Placement
- Recommendation of Principal or Designee in place of GPA requirement detailing rationale
To be eligible for the College Transfer Pathway with CCP through Wake Tech you must meet one of the following requirements.
- UNWEIGHTED cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
- Demonstrates college readiness in English, reading, and math
- PSAT10, SAT, Pre-ACT, NC DAP, or Wake Tech Placement

Dual Enrollment FAQ
Can I drop courses? - Wake Tech has different rules for dropping courses than East Wake, dropping a CCP course may not impact your Wake Tech GPA but WILL affect your high school transcript and GPA. DO NOT drop a course without prior approval from Ms. Wall
How are courses weighted for dual enrollment courses? - College Transfer Pathway must carry an additional 1.0 credit weight on your GPA(the same as AP courses). CTE Pathway the courses carry the following: standard = - added, honors =.5 added, college=1.0 added. All are dependent on the selected course. The following link has the course list options.
How many East Wake courses must I take? - Students must enroll in a minimum of 2 EWMHS classes
How do I know what classes to take? - Talk with your counselor or Ms. Wall to help guide your choices.
