• Junior Year

    • Be in school every day!  Keep unnecessary absences to a minimum and always bring a note the day you return to school.  Excessive absences can lead to a loss of school privileges.
    • Juniors are eligible to obtain a parking pass and an off-campus lunch permit.  Forms for these are available in mid-August and the schedule for obtaining these will be posted on the MCHS Website.
    • Continue to be involved in school activities.  This is a great year to take on a leadership role in a club or team.  Update your resume with activities and awards.
    • Pay your junior dues.  Only students who have paid will be allowed to attend prom.  See the MCHS website for payment details.
    • Junior meetings usually occur in October of junior year.  These group meetings are where juniors receive information about their transcript, SAT/ACT tests, and postsecondary planning.  Parents are welcome to schedule an individual conference with their student’s counselor if they have specific questions.
    • Keep grades up!  This is the last full year of grades that colleges will see when applying in the future.
    • In February, juniors who have taken AP courses will sign up to take AP tests for the courses they would like.  Instructions for registration will be sent home at this time.  AP Exams are given in May of each year.
    • In February or March, all juniors will take the ACT free of charge during the school day.  This test can be used for applying to colleges in their senior year.  Further information can be found at www.actstudent.org.
    • College-bound students are also encouraged to take the SAT during the spring or summer after their junior year.  Registration and further information can be found at www.collegeboard.org/sat.
    • Research different college options and make plans to attend their Open Houses or make an appointment for a campus tour.  This is the time to begin creating the list of colleges your student will apply to during their senior year.
    • During course registration time inform your counselor if students wish to be a Mid-Year Graduate.  Choose senior courses where you will be challenged in order to help you have a successful transition to college.  Colleges pay close attention to senior year course selections.
    • The Junior Senior Prom is usually held in April/May.
