Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.

Carpool Duty: When you get out to carpool duty, if the cones have not been set out then help set out the cones.  There needs to be 4 cones total.  You will be assigned a cone and students will report to you when their carpool number is called.  Help students get safely into their cars and close car doors behind them; reminding students to show their Panther PRIDE by using “walking feet”.  It is important to pay attention so you do not slam fingers in doors!

Kindergarten Pal Duty:  One student will assist the kindergarten teachers in helping students walk to the correct cone.  They will stand with kindergarten teachers and students until one of their carpool numbers is called.

Bus Duty: Assist MPE by holding up bus route numbers by the appropriate bus, walking Kindergartners to their correct bus or after school van, reminding students to show their Panther PRIDE by using walking feet, keeping hands to themselves, etc.  There will always be a teacher with you to help instruct you on which bus number to hold and where the bus is.  It is VERY important to remember to stay on the side walk when holding a sign and NEVER go into the street.  If you are waiting for a bus to come, do so by the side of the building, not near traffic flow.

Flag Duty:  Two students will take down the flag.  You need to do this with respect and make sure the flag does not touch the ground.  The flag is not a toy.  Unwind the rope, lower the flag, un-clip the rope to the flag, secure the rope, and fold the flag properly.
