Mrs Dove is both a parent and educator at Powell. She began her education journey as a substitute teacher at Powell during the pandemic and found that education was her true calling. She studied Exercise Physiology at East Carolina University and Biochemistry at North Carolina State University. Mrs Dove strongly believes in Powell’s magnet theme of play and ingenuity and has two children, one Powell alumni and one still at Powell. Finding fun in all things is her life goal and she enjoys sparking curiosity in her students. Mrs Dove has been married to her husband Chuck for over 17 years and they have two kids, Gunner and Remy, and a furkid named Murphy. As a family, they enjoy outdoor activities and playing games of all kinds. Mrs Dove is excited to continue her educational journey at Powell and to learn and grow with her students each year!

Mrs. Samantha Lowry
Fourth Grade Teacher
Mrs. Lowry grew up in the small town of Pembroke, North Carolina, and is a proud member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. She comes from a big family with five siblings—two brothers and three sisters—who helped shape her love for connection and community.
Her teaching journey began in February 2022 as a substitute teacher. In November 2023, she became the Building Substitute, and by March 2024, she stepped into the role of EBS-K Instructional Assistant. It was during this time that Mrs. Lowry realized teaching had truly stolen her heart. In August 2024, she began her role as a Fourth Grade Teacher—an experience that confirmed she had found her calling.
When she’s not in the classroom, Mrs. Lowry enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and daughter. She also loves reading mystery novels, listening to true-crime podcasts, and watching horror films.
My Play-losophy:
My play-losophy is built on curiosity, creativity, and connection. I believe every child deserves a space where they feel seen, valued, and inspired. My classroom is a place where curiosity leads the way, where mistakes are part of the adventure, and where every child feels safe to take risks and imagine new possibilities. I have a passion for helping students grow both academically and personally, and I believe that learning should be engaging, meaningful, and fun.
