Ms. Dean

Hello families! My name is Catherine Dean, and I am a 2nd grade teacher at Yates Mill! Here is a little bit about me :)

I was born in San Antonio, Texas, but I have lived in North Carolina for most of my life. I attended NC State University for my undergraduate degree on a full-ride merit scholarship (the Park Scholarship). I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (STEM concentration) with an additional licensure in teaching ESL, and I dual minored in Spanish and Teaching English as an Additional Language. At NC State I was involved with the Teaching Fellows program, CRU, College Mentors for Kids, the Passport to Success Program, the College of Education and Park Scholar Ambassadors program, Voluntarios Ahora en Raleigh, the Musical Empowerment Leadership team, and the Sube Ritmo dance team. I am still a part of the NC State Wolfpack, working toward a Master's in Elementary Education (Math). I speak Spanish and like incorporating different languages and cultures into my lessons. I am passionate about making learning fun, exciting, and engaging! It’s my goal to help students realize their full potential and discover/ develop their passions.

In my free time, I love to read and cook! I also like to listen to and play music. I played saxophone for the NC State Marching Band and Pep Band and piano on my church’s praise team. I also enjoy dancing, and over the years, I have learned several different styles of dance: bachata, salsa, cumbia, the Carolina shag, and line dancing.

I absolutely love 2nd grade and am so excited for this school year!
