• Principal Message for May 18, 2026

    Greetings Carroll Families,
    I hope your weekend allowed some time for rest and recharging. The following updates pertain to events for this and upcoming weeks.


    Upcoming events:
    May 21 - Band Concert
    May 25 - Holiday (no school for students)
    May 29 - Science EOG testing
    June 1 - Math 1 EOC (7th Graders)

    On behalf of all our staff and school employees, thank you to our PTO and all parents for supporting Teacher Appreciation week. The food, treats and notes have been uplifting for our staff.

    You are invited to join us on Thursday May 21, 2026 @ 6pm for our Spring Band concert under the direction of Mr. Dickson our band director. Specific details regarding 6-8 grade times and performances were sent home with students last week.

    We are few days away from the beginning of EOG testing, please be sure to encourage students to study notes and take advantage of using Delta Math, Dreambox and Freckle to prepare for EOGs. In preparation for EOGs student must charge devices and have them in school daily beginning this week.

    Please see request for proctor letter. This year we are reaching out to parents and the local business community to partner with us to ensure we have proctors for EOGs. Please see contact information for staff in the event you are able to volunteer your time.

    Students who are interested in basketball and plan to attend interest meeting next week must have proper physical paperwork and uploaded documents in DragonFly. Students who do not have paperwork will not be allowed to attend interest meeting.   

    8th Grade Families - Please help us prepare for the 8th grade "Moving Up" Ceremony on June 11, 2026, by filling out the following form: https://bit.ly/8cmms26 This will help us gauge attendance and will serve as the formal checkout system should you choose to take your child home after the ceremony.

    Incoming Freshman Sports Night

    Calling all Class of 2030 Spartan families! Join the Sanderson Athletic Club for Incoming Freshman Sports Night on Thursday, May 21st at 6pm in the football stadium

    Academics
    As a reminder, you can use this bit.ly/waag25 to track what your child is learning weekly. With a few weeks remaining in the 4th quarter, please check your child’s work progress in Canvas. EOG released tests and NC Test are available for students to study for EOGs.

    Schoolwide Expectations
    8th grade parents with end of year events approaching, please note any behavior infraction no matter how minor will result in students being excluded from activities (except moving up ceremony). Please speak with your child about demonstrating appropriate behavior.
    Carpool parents, this is a reminder to follow drop-off and pick up expectations for the safety of all students. I am asking parents to refrain from dropping students off on Rowan and surrounding streets.  In addition, please refrain from circumventing the line by entering the staff parking area. All drop off and pick up must proceed to the back entrance off Rowan Street. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.


    School Attendance
    As a reminder, school hours are 7am to 2:15pm. The tardy bell rings at 7:30am. Early Check out cut off 1:45pm. Parents who arrive after 1:45pm for check out will be directed to carpool for pick up.

    All students are expected to be in school for the full school day.  It’s flu season, students who are experiencing the following symptoms should stay home using the guidance below:

    • Fever of 100.4 or higher (24 hrs fever free without fever-reducing medication)
    • Diarrhea (12 hrs free of symptoms)
    • Nausea and Vomiting (12 hrs free of symptoms)                                     
    • Severe headache
    • Red, watery eyes with yellow discharge, Undiagnosed rash

    Please submit the note electronically to Ms. Rich (trich3@wcpss.net) in Student Services for any missed days of school.
