Attendance Forms and Policies

  • Coming to school every day, ready to learn, is important for a child's success -- and it's required by state law for children between the ages of 7 and 16.

Students are expected to attend school daily and be on time for each class, every day.

    Attendance & Tardy Policies

Students should enter campus using the main office door. If you are tardy, you should report to a tardy station and then check your tardy pass for the consequence associated with the number of tardies you have accumulated:

    • 1 - 4 Tardies: Warning
    • 5 - 9 Tardies: Lunch Detention
    • 10 Tardies: ISS or Loss of Lunch Pass
    • 11 - 15 Tardies: Lunch Detention
    • 16+ Tardies: ISS or Loss of Lunch Pass

Juniors and Seniors with lunch passes who exceed 10 absences (excused, unexcused, and educational leave) in any class will forfeit their pass until the end of the current quarter.

Seniors in Grade 12 who exceed 10 absences (excused, unexcused, and educational leave) will lose their Exam exemption for that course. (Senior exemptions do not exist for state, CTE, or field exams).

Students who have a planned absence, must communicate (face-to-face, email, or both) with their teacher ahead of time to a make a plan for missed work.

Students who have an unplanned absence (e.g., illness), are experiencing personal challenges, and/or need academic support, must communicate (face-to-face, email, or both)  with their teacher and explain why. Student/teacher dialogue will determine appropriate support.

    Excused Absences

Parents need to provide an email or the Green Level Absence Form (see below) within two days of their child's return to classes or the absences will be recorded as unexcused. Please email Ms. McIndoe at smcindoe@wcpss.netNo phone calls will be accepted.

A principal or teacher will notify parents if there are three or more unexcused absences, and will work with the family if there is a concern that absences are becoming excessive.

    Excused absences include:
    • Illness or injury
    • Death in the family
    • Health care appointments
    • Court appearances
    • Religious observance
    • Natural disasters
    • Outside educational opportunities *

All students who miss school MUST provide a copy of a note from the parent, doctor, dentist, court, etc. upon return. Any student that does not provide such verification to the Attendance Office will be counted as UNEXCUSED for the class period(s) missed. Excused notes should be received within 2 days of returning to school. Any note received after 2 days will not change the absence to excused. Parents/Guardians: When sending in an excused absence note, please include student's first and last name, the date of the absence, and the date the note is written. Notes on "Post-It Notes" will not be accepted; please use the Green Level Form or a regular piece of paper.

    Excused Absences for Educational Opportunities

    * For outside educational opportunities, The Excused Absences for Educational Reasons Form must be completed in advance of the absence(s).

    Check Out Process

Parent must come to the Attendance Office, provide proper identification and the student will be called and dismissed from class. The parent may wait outside in the courtyard or in their car for their student. If the student is dismissed for a doctor appointment, we ask that the student provide an excuse note from the doctor’s office.

If the student is a student driver and they will be driving themselves to their appointment, please send in a note with the student in the morning stating the time and reason for dismissal. The student should bring that to the Attendance Office when they arrive at school. We will give them a pass that dismisses them from class and from the parking lot. Upon return from school the student should provide the Attendance Office with a note from the doctor.

There are no student dismissals after 2:00 pm.
