Karen Summers, Principal
My husband and I relocated from Athens, Georgia to Raleigh in 1997. After starting my career as a special education teacher, I was fortunate to land my first administrative position in Wake County Public School System as a Senior Administrator in Special Education Services. For the last 20+ years, I have enjoyed a progressive succession of administrative roles in central office and in schools. My first principalship was at Davis Drive Middle School in 2009, and I transitioned to Green Hope High School in 2014. I am proud to have lived in the attendance area for Green Level High School for the past 15+ years. Our two daughters attended Highcroft Elementary, Mills Park Elementary, Davis Drive Middle, and Green Hope High. One of the highlights of my career was handing them their high school diplomas in 2017. And now, I have the great pleasure of leading as principal of Green Level High School!

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, I relocated to North Carolina shortly after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh (Hail to Pitt!) to begin my career in education. As a Teach for America corps member, my first teaching assignment was at Conway Middle School in Northampton County as a cross-categorical Special Education teacher. My wife and I moved to Wake County in 2016, where I have since taught at Green Hope High School and Hortons Creek Elementary School. Throughout my teaching career, I also served as Special Education department chair and coached wrestling, football, basketball, and baseball. I later earned my Master of School Administration degree from UNC-Chapel Hill (Go Heels!) as a North Carolina Principal Fellow, and I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. In my spare time, you can find me spending time outdoors, attending sporting events, or relaxing with my son and two pets.

I am excited to be a part of the Green Level community! Born and raised in North Carolina, I've had the privilege of serving as an educator throughout the state for the past 19 years. After graduating from Western Carolina University with a degree in mathematics and history education, I spent 12 years in the classroom as a teacher and coach. After obtaining my Master's degree in school administration, I served as an Assistant Principal at Fuquay-Varina High School for seven years. My wife, Sally, and I live in western Cary with our dog, Chloe; and, in my free time, I enjoy landscaping, home improvement projects, and staying active through CrossFit. I look forward to engaging and building relationships with each of you!

Hello, Green Level families! I am honored to be a part of the Green Level administrative team! I continue to be excited about the opportunity to help cultivate an inclusive, socially and academically-stimulating school environment -- together! My journey to Green Level started in New York, where I was raised near Buffalo. Shortly after graduating from Cortland State University, I moved south, earned my Master’s degree from NC State University (Go Pack!), and made my home in Raleigh. I have spent the last 25+ years with WCPSS in a variety of teaching and administrative roles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I have walked beside parents in elementary school as they smiled for pictures on their child’s first day of school, guided students and parents through the “middle” school years, and now, I have the opportunity to help Green Level families navigate “their path” as they explore the next steps of their educational journey. My wife and I have two children, one who is a WCPSS graduate and a second who is a student at Green Level. Both of our children frequently surprise and inspire me as an educator. Outside of school, we can usually be found cheering from the sidelines as we support our children in a variety of sports.

I grew up in Apex, North Carolina, and my strong ties to this community have influenced my educational career. I graduated from Campbell University with a degree in Business Administration. While at Campbell, I enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Reserve and was later commissioned as an Officer in 2010. I have had the privilege of serving for the past 27 years and continue to actively participate as a Reserve with my assigned unit. This experience has instilled in me a strong sense of discipline and responsibility, which I bring to my role in education. In 2010, I decided to return to the Triangle area and pursue a career in education. I began by teaching Career and Technical Education classes at Green Hope High School, a role that I found incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, I had the opportunity to coach football and mentor young athletes.Realizing the importance of leadership in education, I pursued further studies and enrolled at Western Carolina University in 2019. Upon completing my Master of School Administration, I became an Assistant Principal at Green Level High School in 2020. I strive to positively impact students, staff, and the broader school community in this role.My family is central to everything I do. I am married to my wonderful wife, Jamie, and we have three sons: Cooper, Tyler, and Tucker. Outside of work, I dedicate my free time to supporting my children in their various sports and activities. This personal commitment to my family and community is a driving force in my professional life, and I take great pride in being a part of the educational field.

I have spent my entire life in Wake County, so I'm thrilled to be part of the team at Green Level High School. I attended Garner Senior High School and went on to get my bachelor's and Master's in International Relations from Appalachian State University (Go Mountaineers!). After graduating, I moved overseas and taught English as a Second Language in South Korea. Even though I only planned to stay for six months, I fell in love with teaching and stayed for four years. After returning to the United States, I completed a lateral entry teacher certification program at North Carolina State University and was lucky enough to teach Social Studies at the same middle school I attended (Fuquay-Varina Middle School). Most recently, I returned to North Carolina State University and completed their Principal Fellows Program. I look forward to providing students and families with whatever they need to have a successful high school experience!
