September 15, 2025
Posted by Joyce Deaton on 9/16/2025 7:00:00 AMDear Wakefield Families,
I want to make you aware of a serious concern we have been addressing at school. Over the past several days, when verbal or physical altercations have occurred, large groups of students have run toward these situations as spectators. While many of these students may not be directly involved, this behavior is both dangerous and disruptive.
When students rush to an altercation, they create unsafe crowding, block staff members who are trying to respond, and increase the risk of injury to both students and staff. This cannot continue.
Moving forward, Wakefield High School will begin reviewing camera footage after incidents, and any student found running toward or crowding around altercations will be assigned consequences for school disruption in accordance with WCPSS policy.
We are asking for your support in speaking with your child about the importance of staying clear of these situations and making safe, responsible choices. Our goal is to keep the school environment secure and focused on learning for all students.
Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home. Together, we can set the cultural norm that Wakefield High School is a place where safety and respect come first.
Yours,
Malik Bazzell, Principal

Posted by Joyce Deaton on 9/16/2025 7:00:00 AMStudent SafetyDear Wakefield High School Families,
As part of our commitment to student safety and well-being, all Wake County Public School System middle and high schools are required to show the Protecting Our Students videos to students in grades 6 through 12 during the school year. A state law passed in 2023 requires that all public school students in grades 6-12 view these videos.
These age-appropriate videos were developed by the Center for Safer Schools, in collaboration with Capitol Broadcasting Company. They are designed to educate students about inappropriate behavior and adult misconduct in school settings, to ensure students know skills to stay safe, and to help them identify trusted adults they can turn to for help. Our goal is to empower students with knowledge while approaching this sensitive topic with care and respect.
After watching the video, students will be able to:
-
Understand what inappropriate behavior by an adult is and what it might look like if it is happening to them or someone they know
-
Know how to practice healthy behaviors and skills to stay safe
-
Identify a responsible adult who they can ask for help
You may preview the videos on YouTube using the links below. Please contact a member of our school’s Student Services team with questions. If you would like to select that your student opt out of these videos, please complete this opt-out form no later than Friday, September 19th. We appreciate your partnership in helping keep our students informed, safe, and supported.

Wakefield High School Attendance Procedures
To ensure the safety of our students and the accuracy of attendance records, all check-in and check-out procedures must be followed as outlined below:
🔹 Student Departure Procedures
-
Students are not permitted to leave campus without properly checking out through the attendance office.
-
Parents must follow official procedures before a student may be released.
If a parent/guardian is picking up a student:
-
Enter the building and sign in at the visitor kiosk to scan your ID.
-
Proceed to the attendance office to officially sign your student out.
-
Please note: Phone calls or text messages alone are not sufficient to release a student.
If a student is walking or driving themselves:
-
The student may leave only with written parent/guardian permission (printed or digital), verified by the attendance clerk.
-
The note must include:
-
Student’s full name
-
Reason for leaving
-
Parent/guardian confirmation, including contact information
-
Students who leave campus without authorization will be subject to disciplinary consequences.
🔹 Student Arrival Procedures
-
Students returning to school after an appointment or illness must sign in at the attendance office before going to class.
-
A note verifying the appointment is required for the absence to be considered excused.
-
Students may not sign back in unless they officially signed out when leaving. Failure to do so creates inconsistencies in attendance records.
🔹 Check-Out Cut-Off Time
-
The latest time for student checkout is 2:05 p.m.
