Mr. Marcin's Weekly Message
Posted by Lynne Dodd on 8/28/2024Hello East Millbrook Middle School Community,
Marcin’s Message
Good Afternoon!
We are only two days away from the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year and we could not be more excited.
Student Schedules
Student schedules are still receiving final reviews and tweaks.
We will be handing out schedules again on Tuesday morning.
All 6th grade students will report to the auditorium as soon as they arrive on campus. Students will receive another copy of their final schedule Tuesday morning.
7th and 8th Grade Students - If a student does not yet know their schedule and cannot access it in Powerschool - they can go to the media center to get the name/room number of their homeroom teacher.
Homeroom teachers will have schedules to hand out.
Personal Electronic Devices
Cell Phones
EM3 is a cell phone-free school.
Students will be permitted to have cell phones in their backpacks throughout the school day.
Students MUST have their cell phones turned off during the school day and stored in their bookbags.
Cell phones will be out of sight during the school day.
Families, we ask that you support us in these efforts to minimize distractions from learning throughout the school day.
Students who refuse to follow this policy will be subject to disciplinary actions.
Breakfast & Lunch
With changes to the Title One Federal Programming - Every student who attends EM3 will receive a free breakfast and free lunch each school day. There are no forms to sign or fill out.
Please encourage your child to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
Morning Carpool
Morning Carpool begins at 7:00 AM and runs until 7:25 AM.
Enter our campus at the stoplight of Spring Forest and Hollenden Drive. Follow the road to the right and families will snake through the parking lot. Cars will likely be doubled up in this lane until you get to the single lane section of the road.
Please be courteous and file into the single lane one car at a time (left lane, right lane, etc)
Students should remain in their vehicles until their car reaches the sidewalk in front of the main office. Staff and Student leaders will be welcoming families and opening car doors.
Afternoon Carpool
Afternoon Carpool begins at 2:15 PM and runs until 2:45 PM.
Families will need to have their carpool number hanging from their rearview mirror, so that we’re able to identify which students need to report to carpool.
Students will see their carpool number posted on the TV and they will report to carpool and go directly to their car.
If your child does not come directly to carpool, then you will be asked by the carpool staff to pull into a parking space in order to keep the line moving. Please encourage your child to make sure they’re focusing on the dismissal slidedeck so they don’t miss their carpool number, which will delay them from coming out on time.
If you did not pick up your carpool number last week - it will be given to your student during their homeroom class this week.
Buses
Students who had previously registered for bus transportation should have received an email from transportation last week. This email included the bus route, stop and time for all students who are already registered to ride the bus.
Does your child need transportation? Please go to the following link to register your student for transportation here: https://www.wcpss.net/busrider.
Do you know the time your student should be at their stop? Please visit this link: https://www.wcpss.net/busrider. Locate bus routes to times.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Taylor at lataylor@wcpss.net
All morning and afternoon bus routes are also posted on our EM3 website.
Walkers
Walkers will be dismissed after the carpool line slows down, in order for students to safely cross the street.
6th Grade Walkers - 2:25pm
7th Grade Walkers - 2:30pm
8th Grade Walkers - 2:35pm
Chromebooks
Daily Responsibility:
Students must bring their Chromebook to school every day, fully charged and ready for use.
Teacher Check-ins:
Teachers will conduct daily checks to ensure students have their Chromebooks in class.

If a student forgets their device, they will need to complete their work using paper and pencil for that day.
Appropriate Use:
Chromebooks must be used appropriately at all times. Misuse may result in the device being confiscated.
Damage and Repairs:
Students are responsible for taking care of their Chromebooks. In case of damage, the device may be subject to repair, with only one possible replacement allowed.
School Use Only:
In some cases, Chromebooks may become "school use only" if a student repeatedly forgets or damages their device.

Student Dress Code
Families - please become familiar with the Dress Code for all Wake County Public Schools.
Students are expected to adhere to standards of dress and appearance. Our guiding principles for the student dress code are similar to those experienced and expected in the workplace: attire that furthers health and safety of students and staff, enables the educational process, and facilitates the operations of the school.
Please partner with the school district to monitor your student’s attire and to help our students adhere to the guiding principles set forth in the policy. Also, please review the full Student Dress Code policy online.
To promote these goals, students may not wear or carry clothing, jewelry, book bags, or other personal articles that:
-
Depict profanity, vulgarity, obscenity, or violence;
-
Promote the use or abuse of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs;
-
Are prohibited under Policy 4309 III-2 (Gang and Gang Related Activity) or any other provision of the Code of Student Conduct;
-
Threaten the health or safety of staff or students;
-
Are reasonably likely to create a substantial disruption of the educational process or operations of the school.
Specifically:
-
Students must wear clothing that covers their skin from chest to mid-thigh with opaque (non-see-through) fabric in front, back, and on the sides.
-
Students must wear shoes at all times except when changing for physical education or athletic practices or events or when specifically directed otherwise by a teacher or administrator.
-
Clothing must cover undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded).
-
Breasts, genitals and buttocks must be covered with opaque (non-see-through) fabric.
-
Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education, science labs, wood shop, and other activities where unique hazards exist.
-
Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms or safety gear.
-
Head coverings (including hats, hoods, sweat bands, and bandanas) are generally prohibited in the school building. However, students may wear head coverings in the school building as an expression of sincerely held religious belief (e.g., hijabs or yarmulkes) or cultural expression (e.g., geles) or to reasonably accommodate medical or disability-related issues (e.g., protective helmets).
Taylor a lataylor@wcpss.net
