Health and PE

The mission of the Broughton High School Healthful Living Department is to help all students be safe, be healthy, be physically active and be committed to lifelong behaviors that contribute to perpetual quality of life. When fully integrated, the Healthful Living curriculum supports and reinforces its two major components, health and physical education, and, as such, maximizes active learning for Broughton’s HPE students.
The Healthful Living Department is dedicated to total wellness, including physical, social and emotional well-being.
The Healthful Living Department strives to enable students to improve individual, overall fitness; to increase knowledge of (and adroitness in) team sports; to optimize cardiovascular benchmarks; to raise strength and conditioning performance; and to exhibit etiquette and sportsmanship.
The completion of the Healthful Living course is a North Carolina graduation requirement for all ninth graders. In addition, we offer a variety of elective courses, including Adventure Education, Lifetime Sports, Team Sports, JRROTC-HL I and II, Weight Training, Sports Medicine I, II, and III, CPR and First Aid, and Honors Personal Fitness.
