    German I

    This course will provide an introduction to the basic grammar and vocabulary of the language, with equal emphasis on the four areas of proficiency: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Information regarding the life, customs, and culture of the people will be included.

    German II

    This course continues to develop students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of the course, the students will have been introduced to the entire basic grammar. Cultural lessons and applied communication will be integrated into the curriculum.

    German III (IB) (H)

    This course emphasizes development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and provides a review of the basic grammar. Students will engage in many activities designed to encourage speaking proficiency, as well as listen and respond to activities culled from media sources in the target language.

    German IV (IB) (H)

    This course emphasizes advanced listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills along with an in-depth grammar study with emphasis on communication as well as accuracy. Discussion, conversations, and further study of the culture will be enhanced by the readings of selected stories, essays, drama, poetry, magazines, and newspapers. Selected movies, songs, and videos will also be integrated into the curriculum.

    Advanced Placement German Language and Culture

    This course follows the prescribed curriculum of the Advanced Placement program. Instruction focuses on the mastery of language skills through increased literary and media readings, conversation, aural-oral work, and composition at the college level. At the end of the course, students may elect to take the Advanced Placement Examination.
