Carpool Procedures
-
Morning drop-off begins at 7:45am and concludes at 8:10am. Students who are not out of their cars at 8:10 will need to be escorted inside by their parents. Please pull all the way to the front of the circle to ensure efficient unloading process. Staff members will open doors for students to welcome them to school.
Afternoon pickup begins at 3:05pm. Cars should display the carpool tag (purchase for $2 in the front office). The number on the tag will be used to call students to the carpool area. Students line up by colored cones in order of the carpool numbers. Please remain in order, pull up to the cone your child is waiting at, and keep the carpool tag visible throughout the carpool line. Staff members are stationed at the cones to assist with the loading process. If your child is not at a cone, please alert a staff member and pull to the side while the student is paged again.
Reminders: Use the main driveway to enter the carpool line. The line will loop through the parking lot and around the circle. Please refrain from cell phone use during carpool drop-off and pickup to maintain the safety of our school community and expedite the process.
Carpool Tags will be available at Open House on Thursday August 24 or in the office any day thereafter.
Carpool Information from Handbook
-
Anyone arriving and leaving school via carpool needs a carpool tag. Hilburn will be issuing newly-designed carpool tags to all carpoolers in the 2016-2017 school year. Carpool tags are $2.00 and are available in the Main Office. For safety reasons, we can only release students to cars that have carpool tags. Unidentified individuals will be asked to check students out in the front office by showing proper identification. The name must be on the locator card for the student to be released.
It is our expectation that all parents and students are paying attention and moving as swiftly as safe and possible in the carpool line. Parents should not be on cell phones and should be ready to move forward at any point in time. Attention helps to keep this process moving smoothly, and we appreciate your cooperation. When in the carpool line, students’ safety requires all adhere to the following guidelines:
- Carpool tags will be in drivers’ possession an on rearview mirrors at all times.
- Drivers will follow the traffic route designated by traffic cones and move in single file to the pick-up area.
- Drivers will remain focused, avoiding cell phones and other tasks once the line begins moving.
- Drivers will be courteous and respectful of one another and staff members.
Keep in mind that the first two weeks of school tend to be slower in carpool as our new parents and students get used to our procedure.
Morning Drop Off begins at 7:45. Staff members will open students’ doors on the right side for safety purposes. Carpool students wishing to eat breakfast should be dropped off between 7:45 and 8:00 so they have sufficient time to eat and arrive to class on time.
Afternoon Dismissal begins immediately following the 3:00 bell. A staff member will call carpool numbers, and students will report to their assigned cones to board their vehicles. Parents are to remain in their cars at all times to ensure safety and efficiency of the procedure.
No one is permitted to avoid the carpool line by parking on the street and picking up a child as a walker. School Board Policy defines walkers as children who live within the designated Walk Zone. If your address is not within the Walk Zone, you must choose carpool or bus as your mode of transportation.
