Reminders

• Our first field trip is quickly approaching on Thursday, November 20th. We will attend the NC Symphony. Please sign and return permission forms as soon as possible. Payments can be made on our school’s website by clicking school support and online payments. We are unable to take chaperons on this trip.

• Students will be taking their first reading NC Check-In on Tuesday, November 18th.The purpose of the NC Check-In is to provide students, teachers, and parents with immediate, in-depth data and  a reliable  estimate of students’ current performance on selected content standards. The best preparation is a good night’s sleep, healthy breakfast and on time arrival on test day. Results will be shared when they become available.  A fully charged Chromebook is needed for NC Check-Ins. If your child takes his or her device home, please assist them in charging it to ensure it is ready to be used at 8:30 am

What We’re Learning

ELA

• Students will be introduced to our next module, Animal Defense Mechanisms. Next, they will learn how to closely read scientific text for the main idea and learn how to take notes. 

Math

• Unit 4 introduces multi-digit multiplication and division concepts. At first, students are shown how to multiply using place value materials  and arrays. Then they will learn the area model method. After practicing the area model of multiplication with two and three digits, they will divide using the area model of division.

Science

• Our students will  focus on life in changing habitats, which aligns with our EL module study.

Social Studies

• Students will continue to learn about the ways in which movement of people, goods, and ideas has impacted the development of North Carolina using maps and geographic tools.
