Monthly Updates- October 2025

  • Reminders

    • Our first field trip is quickly approaching on Thursday, November 20th. We will attend the NC Symphony. Please sign and return permission forms as soon as possible. Payments can be made on our school’s website by clicking school support and online payments. We are unable to take chaperons on this trip.

    What We’re Learning

    ELA

    • Student groups are writing informative essays on their expert poet. They will revise together based on the criteria given and teacher feedback. Next week, students will begin to explore what is meaningful to them to find inspiration to write a poem. They will plan, write, and revise their poems. Students will then work on their poetry presentations and write an autobiographical piece about their inspirations.

    Math

    • Students will soon be taking the STAR math assessment, which is a beginning-of-year screener to see which math skills students have solidified and which areas students need support with. We will begin our third math unit by using place value strategies to add and subtract up to 100,000. Next, students will continue to compare larger numbers and solve problems using place value.

    Science

    • Our students finished up the unit on forms of energy and took the final unit assessment.  Next, students will focus on light energy.

    Social Studies

    • Students will learn about the ways in which movement of people, goods, and ideas has impacted the development of North Carolina using maps and geographic tools.
