• School Counseling internships

    Overview

Thank you for your interest in completing a school counseling internship or practicum with the Wake County Public School System. Our partnerships with universities help prepare the next generation of school counselors to support student success.

Please note: University students may not contact schools, Central Services, or Human Resources directly to request placements. All requests must come from the designated university placement contact and follow our procedures and deadlines.

    Internships

    1. The university contact completes the Full-Time Intern Template.
    2. If any information is missing, we will return the template for completion.
    3. The university contact submits the completed template to Vanessa Barnes.
    4. Vanessa Barnes reviews and finalizes placement details with the university contact.
    5. Students complete a health form and a criminal records check (CRC).
    6. Once placement details are confirmed, the university contact emails the template and health forms (including TB test results) to Human Resources. CRC results are sent directly to HR via a secure database. Please do not email CRC results.
    7. Human Resources reviews eligibility and communicates approval to the university contact and Vanessa Barnes.
    8. Once approved, Vanessa Barnes will notify the WCPSS school. The site supervisor may then contact the student to begin onboarding.
