    Please note, this list is meant to be a starting point to help you in your decision to opt in to BYOD.  The list is meant to be helpful in determining how devices may be used in an academic setting.  Please understand that we can’t make specific brand suggestions.  The list, while comprehensive, is not exhaustive.

    A laptop is a portable and compact personal computer with the same capabilities as a desktop computer.

    Netbooks
    (Examples being Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, etc.)

    A netbook is a small, light, low-power notebook computer that has less processing power than a full-sized laptop but is still suitable for word processing, running a Web browser and connecting wirelessly to the Internet.  


    THIS IS A PRIMARY DEVICE!

    (Examples being Samsung, Google, etc.)

    A chromebook is laptop running Chrome OS as its operating system.  The devices are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications & data residing “in the cloud”.

    A tablet is a computer that accepts input directly onto an LCD screen rather than via a keyboard or mouse.  The devices are designed to connect to the Internet, while also allowing for the saving of applications & data.
