Community Service Guidelines for the 2024-2025 School Year
-
The deadline for submitting 1st semester and summer 2024 hours is January 31st, 2025
Community Service Hours Requirement
All students will use the service website X2VOL for the Community Service Program during the 2024-2025 school year. This system allows students to submit and track their own service hours. Following the first 10 days of school, all students will have a lesson in advisory for how to claim their account and hours in X2vol. 9th graders and students new to BHS will not be able to claim their X2Vol account until that time, and can submit 1 service hour when they do.

Additional Guidelines for the Submission of Hours
- Service hours must have been performed in service to a NON-PROFIT, 501c3 organization. Non-profit agencies include organizations such as the SPCA, Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, any public school, church activities, public libraries and many more. When in doubt about whether an agency is a non-profit, please ask someone at the agency for verification.
-
Verification Process: When entering hours in X2Vol, Broughton students will be required to submit one of the following items for verification (family members and peers cannot be used for verification):
Option 1: A verification letter from the agency that verifies the student’s name, the dates, and the number of hours served. The letter must be on agency letterhead. Students will be able to upload a picture or digital file of the written verification. A personal photograph/selfie or a picture of signup genius/website reminders do not qualify as acceptable forms of verification.
Option 2: An email address for non-profit agency contact. The email address must contain the name of the agency to be verified and accepted. Service submitted with a personal email address will be denied. Submissions in X2Vol that do not meet these requirements will be returned to the student for correction before hours can be credited. Students will receive a message in X2vol when hours are accepted, denied, or returned to them for correction.
Students will receive a message in X2vol when hours are accepted, denied, or returned to them for correction. A reason for rejection will always be given in X2vol if hours are denied. Student hours will be "denied" when the agency has not responded within a two week time frame.
-
Only hours completed after the service due date of May 10th, 2024, may be submitted for credit until January 31st, 2025. Hours from the summer of 2024 may be submitted for credit to the 2024-2025 school year.
-
Service hours for BHS donations (canned food, BHS pantry, coat drive, etc.) will be available to students for a MAXIMUM of 5 hours per year (1 hour for every $5 spent) with a submitted receipt. For goods donated to the school, students must submit the email address in X2vol of the staff member who received the items so that they may verify them.
-
The maximum number of hours per day/per event will not exceed 10 hours. Travel time is not included in volunteer hours.
-
Students may not earn service hours for class sponsored activities such as Prom, Float Building, or Queen of Hearts. Hours can't be earned during instruction/class time. When submitting hours earned on a school day, please note in X2VOL that the activity was not during instructional hours.
-
Silver Honor Cord for Graduation: Students who perform at least 25 additional hours of community service over their requirement for their years at Broughton may earn a silver cord to wear at graduation. The silver cord designates the recipient as a Community Service Honors Graduate.
-
Student Privileges such as receiving off-campus lunch passes and parking passes, student government participation, Honor Society participation, Service Club participation and participation on the Homecoming and Queen of Hearts Courts are contingent upon successful completion of the required hours for each year. Due to a pause in service requirements, students were not held to this guideline during the 2021-2022 school year.
Community Service Hardship Exemption Requests
Students can request to have some or all of their community service hours waived. They need to show that they have responsibilities and and/or exceptional circumstances preventing them from completing the requirement. The student will need to find a Staff advisor to work with them and help them complete the application. A committee will periodically review applications. Exemption requests are due by March 28, 2025.
