    • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the VMCCA website under the “Principal’s Message.”
    • Parents and Students: Please be advised that WCPSS has been approved to use “Remote Learning” days in lieu of school cancellations when there is inclement weather.  These days would be asynchronous learning days where the teachers have prepared assignments and added them to their Canvas classrooms for students to complete on that day.  Teachers are available during school hours to answer questions and support students’ learning.
    • Seniors/Senior Parents:  If you haven't completed the FAFSA, it's time to get started!  Need help/have questions?  Contact Audrey Lee, Financial Aid Advisor at Anlee@wcpss.net.
    • The WCPSS Signs of Suicide presentation will take place in Healthful Living classrooms this Tuesday, January 27th.  Additional information was sent home on January 16th.
    • Senior Parents: This is the final call for cap and gown orders. If you have not ordered the cap and gown for graduation, please visit the VMCCA Homepage and look for the Green Banner at the top of the page.  Orders must be placed by February 2nd at the latest for students to possibly pick them up on Tuesday, March 9th, during lunch. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Ormond at dormond@wcpss.net.
    • Parents: Just in time for Valentine's day, student council and the PTSA present Valentine's teddy bears and candy grams! Parents, surprise your student with an adorable buddy. Students, treat your friends. Large bears are $10, small bears are $5, and candy is $3. Order now at the PTSA school store (link https://vernonmalonecca.givebacks.com/shop?category=5988 ) or in person at lunch Feb 9-12. Valentines will be delivered in first period classes on Friday, Feb 13.

    • Parents and Students: There will be no school tomorrow, Monday, January 19th due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.  School will be closed to students and staff.
    • Parents: All students received their first semester report cards last Tuesday during first period.  If you have any questions, please contact the school.
    • Senior Parents: This is the final call for cap and gown orders.     • Parents and Students: VMCCA’s Meet the Teacher Night is this Thursday, January 15th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  This will provide parents the opportunity to meet their students' second semester teacher and receive an overview of the courses their students will be taking.
    • Parents: At the end of January students will begin to register for their courses for the 26-27 school year.  Counselors will assist with this process; however, we encourage you and your students to prepare by reviewing all of the registration materials available on the VMCCA website under Student Life, Student Services, Registration 26-27.  Once registration is complete, course verification sheets will be sent home for your review (late March/early April).  Reach out to Tracy Taylor, Dean of Students,  for questions regarding registration.
    • Parents: A reminder with the cold weather, our building can also be cold.  Please make sure your students are warmly dressed as we do not allow students to wear blankets on campus.

    • Students return to school on Wednesday, January 7th for the start of the Spring Semester.  Students will receive their second semester schedules in homeroom classes at the beginning of the day.

    • Fall Final Exam from Monday, December 15th, through Friday, December 19th.  The official exam schedule is posted on the VMCCA homepage.  Look for the green banner at the top of the page.  Students who do not have final exams on a given day should not attend school on that day.
    • Seniors: For seniors to be exempt from teacher-made exams, you need to have an A or B grade average and ten or fewer absences (excused or unexcused) from that class.  This does not include State-based EOC’s or CTE exams.
    • Parents and Students:  VMCCA will be closed from Monday, December 22nd, through Friday, January 2nd.  We hope that you and your family enjoy the Winter Break.  Students return to start their second semester classes on Wednesday, January 7th.  
    • Attention Parents:  VMCCA is now participating in the WCPSS School Based Mental Health (SBMH) program.  Any student with social-emotional or behavioral needs may be referred for concerns such as grief, coping skills, peer relationships, and anxiety.  SBMH sessions can take place in person or online.  Contact your student’s counselor for more information.
    • Parents: Neuse River Middle School is hosting a Families Emotional Wellbeing Night on Thursday, January 15th, from 5:00 to 7:30 PM.  This is a free event open to all WCPSS students and their families.  Dinner will be provided.

    • Parents and Students: In preparation for the upcoming Fall Final Exams, those students who wish to leave campus early, after the end of their exam times, need to have a signed Parent Permission Form.  Those who do not have a signed form will need a parent to enter the building to sign a student out early.  Please note that no students will be allowed to leave classrooms early while exams are still in progress.  Forms can be found in the front office and need to be returned tomorrow,  Monday, December 8th.
    • Parents and Students: All students will participate in Mandatory Hawks Nest this Monday, December 8th, through Thursday, December 11th, to prepare for Fall Final Exams.
    • Parents: The PTSA, in preparation for final exam week, is requesting individually wrapped snacks for exam survival kits that will be distributed to all classrooms during exam week. Please keep in mind that some students have peanut allergies. Ideas include Granola and Breakfast Bars, Chips, Fruit snacks, popcorn, mini muffins, and whatever your student says they would like to have for a snack during exam week.  Snacks must be individually wrapped and non-perishable (no refrigeration). Snacks can be dropped off in the office any time, and the PTSA will organize them for distribution.
    • Fall Final Exam from Monday, December 15th, through Friday, December 19th.  The official exam schedule is posted on the VMCCA homepage.  Look for the green banner at the top of the page.

    • Parents: there will be no school for students and staff this Wednesday through Friday, November 26th through the 28th, due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  The building will be closed for business on those days. Students will return to school on Monday, December 1st.
    • Senior Families: The State of North Carolina now offers seniors the opportunity to earn the "Civics Proficiency Diploma Endorsement" for successfully answering questions from the US Naturalization test. Seniors can take the test once per semester during their senior year. Information about this was shared in homerooms on November 7th. Students who have questions can speak with Mr. Schlafer.
