Ms. Kayla Hughey
Track 1
First Grade Teacher
Ms. Hughey has been teaching 1st and 2nd grade for almost 10 years. This is her second year at Turner Creek. She has been named Teacher of the Year and received last year’s Excellence in Teaching Award through the Cary Chamber of Commerce. Her favorite subject to teach is phonics. She loves teaching students how to read. As a teacher, Ms. Hughey strives to create an inclusive environment that teaches responsibility while having fun!
Ms. Hughey has dreamed of being a teacher since elementary school. She would take home extra papers from class to play school with the kids in her neighborhood, insisting on being the teacher. Throughout her teaching career, she has kept a basket of extra papers for students to take home so they can play school themselves.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Hughey loves traveling, weekends out on the lake with friends, and exploring new places in town. She also loves houseplants but isn’t sure if they love her.

First Grade Teacher
Ms. Marks has been teaching at Turner Creek Elementary for 5 years. She will be going into her 11th year of teaching, she has taught 1st grade, 2nd grade, and special education. Ms. Marks is passionate about creating a warm, nurturing environment with the goal of learning new things. She enjoys teaching about growth mindset and hard work to help all students grow. Ms. Marks is excited for another year of learning and growing together.
Ms. Marks is happily married to her husband Jon and they have two beautiful girls Emerson and Olivia and a crazy dog Charlie. Outside of teaching she enjoys going for walks with her family, reading a good book, baking, or cheering on the Hurricanes.

Ms. Brooks has just completed her first year of teaching first grade at Turner Creek Elementary. She has worked in education as a Preschool teacher for 15 years. Ms. Brooks loves seeing the growth in reading and writing that first graders make from the beginning of the year to the end! Ms. Brooks is committed to providing an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. Above all, she wants everyone to Be Kind.
Ms. Brooks has been married for 17 years and has two beautiful daughters, Erin, 10 and Finnley, 7. She loves spending time with her family camping, hiking, at the beach, and attending sporting events and concerts. She also enjoys reading a good book with her dog, Bear and cat, Cheeto.

Junique Flowers is a first-grade teacher at Turner Creek Elementary. Ms. Flowers is passionate about empowering her students to achieve success and she truly believes that with the right support and motivation, anything is possible. Ms. Flowers has been teaching first grade at Turner Creek for 3 years now and it's been an amazing experience. Ms. Flowers graduated from Shaw University in 2020 with a degree in Elementary Education and she has been using the skills and knowledge she gained to create a positive and encouraging learning environment for her students. She is all about building strong relationships with not only her students but, also their families because she thinks it takes a village to raise a child. Ms. Flowers enjoys watching her students grow and develop throughout the year. She feels it is one of the most rewarding feelings and she feels so lucky to be a part of their journey. When Mrs. Flowers is not in the classroom, you can find her spending time with her family. Ms. Flowers has two children Emory, 8, and Michael Jr. 3. Ms. Flowers is so excited to connect with her 23-24 school-year families.

Mr. Woodruff is from Lorain, Ohio, and moved to North Carolina 6 years ago. Mr. Woodruff has a Bachelor of Science degree from Shaw University in Elementary Education. He has a passion for helping all children reach their potential and loves to challenge students to be curious and take chances when learning. In his spare time, he likes to hang out with his chihuahua, play basketball, travel, shop, and spend time with his family and friends.

Ms. Chang-Blandon is a proud and empathic teacher in first grade. This is her 5th year teaching at Turner Creek Elementary. She has been a teacher for over 20 years and has taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade throughout her career, but her passion is 1st grade. She loves to help children learn and grow. Her goal as a teacher is to teach children social-emotional skills and skills they need to thrive both in the classroom and in the real world. As a little girl her dream was always to become a teacher, and she truly has been able to live her dream.
Ms. Chang- Blandon is happily married to Mr. Blandon and they have three beautiful children: Ashley, Belkys and Christopher. She is also has a fur golden doodle baby named Charlotte.

Ms. Moon Joo Kim has been working with children in preschool, day care and teaching in elementary school for 18 years. Ms Kim is hard working, kind to children and respects staff. She enjoys working with students in math and doing crafts with students. Ms . Kim is very positive and likes to smile.

She enjoys working with students and enjoys seeing their growth and progress both academically and socially and emotionally.
She is married and has 2 grown children. In her spare time she enjoys walking her dog, Amos. She also likes to travel and to go “out and about” around the triangle area.
