Principal

Kristin Small has been the principal of Turner Creek Elementary since 2020.  She has been in education for over 15 years, serving as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.  Education is rooted deeply in Ms. Small's family.  Her mother retired as the principal of Leesville Middle School in Raleigh.  Her father was her high school principal.  Ms. Small is proud to carry on this family tradition of educational leadership.  

Ms. Small is married to Erik Small.  She is the proud mother of Kinley, a 4th grader, and Landon and McKenna, 2nd graders, who all attend Leesville Elementary School in Raleigh.  The family has two dogs, Penny, and JackJack.  

Ms. Small loves all things UNC.  You can find her at UNC sporting events throughout the year.  She enjoys spending time riding bikes and visiting local museums with her family.  

Assistant Principal

Ms.Tunstall obtained her undergraduate degree in elementary education and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Shaw University. After several years of teaching, she pursued her educational leadership degree from North Carolina Central University. Ms.Tunstall’s passion for education comes from being surrounded by strong educators her entire life. She can’t picture herself doing anything else.

Ms. Tunstall strives to be a lifelong learner. She wants to not only impact students but also inspire teachers. Positive student relationships are fundamental to success. When students feel supported, they're more likely to learn and have better academic outcomes. Ms.Tunstall is excited about learning and growing with the Turner Creek Community.
