• Music Box Singers

This achievement-based choral group is open to fourth- and fifth-grade students who successfully complete a minimal audition. While several basic skills are assessed on an individual basis during the audition, the only musical requirement is that the student matches pitch consistently. Each member of the group is also expected to cooperate within a large group of peers as they develop teamwork and exhibit personal responsibility towards the musical family as a whole. The chorus holds regular rehearsals from 8:00-8:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. They average three to five concerts in the fall and three to five concerts in the spring. The chorus’ repertoire is varied and has included rounds, patriotic songs, ballads, songs in a foreign language, pop songs, Broadway tunes, childhood favorites, tearjerkers, and choral standards. Parents usually support their students through various volunteer roles throughout the year.

Auditions for rising fourth- and fifth-grade students who currently attend school at Baucom typically are held in the late spring for the next school year. Auditions are held in the early fall for those students who have moved into the Baucom community during the summer. An informational letter will be distributed to eligible students prior to the audition periods.

Students who move into the Baucom community after the conclusion of early fall auditions may express their desire to join the chorus when they arrive; they will be auditioned in hopes that they may join the group in January when the new spring repertoire is begun. Each case will be handled on an individual basis.
