Mrs. Jackson, 3rd Grade Teacher

I have been teaching at Wendell Elementary for 27 years, during which time I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. Over the years, I have watched countless students enter my classroom feeling unsure of themselves and grow into confident, capable learners. One of my favorite parts of teaching is getting to know each student’s personality, strengths, and individual needs, and then finding the best ways to help them succeed. I especially enjoy creating hands-on lessons, using real-life examples, and seeing students light up when they realize, “I can do this!”
 
I live in Zebulon with my husband Terry and dog Willow.  I graduated from Peace College and Meredith College. I have two married children, Rebekah and Caleb. My first grandchild, Parker, was born on September 25, 2025, and my son and his wife are expecting their first child, Lennon, in February 2026!

Ms. Kane, 3rd Grade Teacher

I have taught at Wendell Magnet Elementary School for 17 years and counting!  It was a great place to move to from Michigan. I moved here with my son Mason. As a teacher, I have experienced many wonderful students and families during my years here in Wendell. When at home, I enjoy spending time with my family, to include our cat.  Baking, watching college football and going to the beach are my favorite things.

I am a proud teacher at Wendell Magnet Elementary and have been teaching here for the past five years. 3rd grade has been the only grade I've taught so far, but I truly think it is the best! I truly love what I do and feel lucky to work with such amazing students every day. 
 
One of my favorite things about Wendell is our magnet program, which gives students the chance to be creative, explore their interests, and grow as confident learners. I am passionate about creating a classroom where students feel supported, encouraged, and excited to learn.

Ms. Welch, 3rd Grade Teacher

My name is Bonnie Welch. I am originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but I have called North Carolina home for the past 12 years. I am a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I have previously taught preschool and served as a 4th–8th grade reading and math interventionist.

I am absolutely loving third grade! It is such an exciting year as students make the important shift from learning to read to reading to learn. I value my students and am committed to fostering a love of learning while meeting each child’s individual needs in a supportive and engaging classroom.

Outside of the classroom, I am a mom to two children, Emily (7th grade) and Nathan (4th grade), and two dogs, Bear and Maya. In our free time, we love going on walks and exploring new trails together.

I am SO excited to be a part of WMES and look forward to a wonderful year!
