Jessica Sawvel, ELA

Mrs. Sawvel began her teaching career in Florida in 2000 after graduating from Florida State University. She moved to North Carolina in 2003, where she continued her career as an educator. She and her family relocated to Raleigh and she is excited to be joining the Root family as a 5th Grade teacher! Mrs. Sawvel has two daughters, Lexie and Kate, and one very spoiled puppy, Bowden. In addition to spending time with her family, Mrs. Sawvel enjoys reading, traveling, concerts, theater performances, hockey games, and lots of college football!

Kaylee Schwarz, Science Teacher

After graduating from Belmont Abbey College in 2018, Ms. Schwarz moved back home to Raleigh to begin her teaching career. She has taught kindergarten and fifth grade over the past 5 years in Wake County. Ms. Schwarz loves to do anything outside including hiking, kayaking, and exploring with her dog, Lottie. She also has an artsy side and enjoys crafting, painting and drawing. Ms. Schwarz is very outgoing and  loves being social with her friends and family! Ms. Schwarz is excited to continue her teaching career here at Root Elementary as the fifth-grade science teacher!

Mandi Young, Math

Mrs. Young is originally from Greenville, South Carolina, but moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2018! She is married and has 1 son named Jack. She has been teaching for over 20 years and has taught 5th grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade. Mrs. Young graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Clemson University in 2002. She also graduated with a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Administration from Furman University in 2005. However, her other hobbies include cooking and traveling to the beach.
