Ashley Dozier, Intervention Facilitator/Intervention Teacher

Originally from Laurinburg, NC, Ms. Dozier began her teaching career in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System at Carrboro Elementary School in 2000 after graduating from the University of North Carolina with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Psychology and an M. Ed in Elementary Education.  When she is not teaching, Ms. Dozier enjoys spending time with her family & dog "Sugar," shopping, and relaxing with a good book.  She's a fan of Tar Heel basketball, good coffee, and good seafood.

Esmeralda Cardenas, School Nurse

Ms. Cardenas, RN, BSN graduated from University of Illinois Chicago and started her nursing career in the hospital setting in Chicago, IL, worked in the ICU throughout the pandemic. Recently, made a change in career paths and went into school nursing. She joined the family in April 2023 and is excited to open the school year with Root Elementary School. When she is not training staff or attending student’s health needs, she enjoys spending time with her family. Ms. Cardenas and her husband have two sons. Coffee shops, the beach, and Christian music are some of her favorites!

Martha Hayes, Instructional Facilitator/Intervention

Ms. Hayes grew up in Raleigh and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Elementary Education and Psychology. She then returned to Raleigh and earned a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction at North Carolina State University. Ms. Hayes began her teaching career in Wake County as a first grade teacher. Over the past 20 years, she has taught first and second grade and reading intervention to students in K-5. She has also served as a literacy coach, instructional facilitator and magnet program coordinator. She is excited about joining the Root family for the 2022-23 school year! In her spare time, Ms. Hayes enjoys running, pilates, reading, cheering on the Tarheels, and traveling.

Caitlin Miller, Literacy Coach/Intervention Teacher

Mrs. Miller became a member of the Root Family in 2015.  She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She moved to Raleigh 11 years ago to start her teaching career in Wake County. She is married to Michael, and they have two children: Camden and Logan. In her free time, Mrs. Miller enjoys playing golf, watching BRAVO, drinking coffee, beach weekends and spending time with her family and friends.

Victoria Sockman, School Counselor

From Apex, NC, Ms. Sockman graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, where she also taught internationally in Finland. After graduation, Ms. Sockman obtained a M.Ed in School Counseling, from North Carolina State University. She started working as a school counselor in 2020 at Durant Road Elementary School. This will be her first year at Root Elementary, but her fourth year as a school counselor. Outside of school, Ms. Sockman likes to garden, travel, cheer on the Wolfpack, and spend time with her family, friends and three dogs- Liberty, Maggie and Oaks.
