Career Development
Career Services is an on-campus career development service that operates under the School-to-Career Division of Career and Technical Education within the Wake County Public School System. It is the central hub for the career and leadership development for Heritage High School students. School-to-Career prepares every student to make knowledgeable career choices through academic rigor and work-based learning experiences.

YMCA January Hiring Events

Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program
The Lady Cardinal Mentorship is a 4-week summer enrichment opportunity for North Carolina high school girls, grades 9-12, interested in exploring careers in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics within state government.

McIntyre Youth Leadership Challenge for Students interested in Government
This competition is open to all middle and high school students across North Carolina, and is a great opportunity for students who are interested in government, helping their communities, and/or learning about how to advocate for causes they find important. The deadline to register is Friday, February 20th. Students will have until Friday, March 20th, to submit their 3–5 minute video discussing a problem they see in their community and solutions they believe could help.

NCDOT Model Bridge Competition
The NCDOT Model Bridge Building Competition is a free, statewide STEM event that provides schools with materials and guidance to design and build model bridges. Students compete against peers from public and private schools in a fun, hands-on, and enriching learning experience.
Participating schools have the chance to earn prize money and gain statewide recognition.

Duke OpTech Program
Duke Ophthalmic Technician Program for graduating seniors:
- Students may begin the program after earning a high school diploma. Students must be 18 at start of clinical rotations.
- No college degree or prerequisites required
- Earn a certificate in one year with eligibility to take the certification exam

Three months of in-person classroom instruction.
- Nine months spent getting hands-on experience in clinical rotations at Duke Eye Center
- Starting pay $22-$24/hr
- 90% employment rate after program completion
- Affordable tuition and financial aid are available.
